  1. Very impressed with those photos you have posted Ernie. Have about 40 photos sent to.myself recently taken by someone who visited the CDR in 1960. He found he had missed the last lifting trains by steam between Strabane and Stranorlar by a week. Will do some delving into my archive in the morning.
  2. Well spotted Andy in the Strabane phono was thinking along similar lines!
  3. Noticed that it had been resurrected recently on Fakebook
  4. Thanks will have a look through some of my photos of 4/17 ranging from the 1900s to the 1930s
  5. Have not seen that photo of LLSR No 4 later No 17 before. Have a few photos of that loco in my new Lough Swilly book.
  6. Good to see you back on the road to recovery

Thanks to this chaos what we do is simple for orders for my Lough Swilly book. We are based in Donegal Town so any book for Ireland except NI is posted in Donegal along with books for the EU All books orders for Britain plus NI posted in Derry. Seems to work so far!
  9. There is an article on this theme in the latest New Itish Lines
  10. The Rail Freight policy of Translink for NI under the control of Stormont and the DFI could fit on the back of a postage stamp!
  11. Latest issue of the Railway Magazine has a good advert for your new book JHB and Barry C.
  12. Could always buy Irish Rail an A Class and a few wagons for 500 Euros to show kids in the future what freight trains used to be in the future!
  13. Please pass onto your father my best wishes for a speedy return to health. He has been a great help this year. Jim
  14. December Railway Bylines has Part Two of No more rails to Inishowen. Just out on Friday 26th
  15. Plan to get one now from JHB and will have my own Swilly book as part of our deal. The new Swilly book is selling well especially in Donegal. We were st an event in Letterkenny last night and sold all the books we had brought along!
  16. No could not get photos that day at Dundalk due to train packed because of a Rugby Match!
  17. Yet another aspect the SLNCR shared with the Swilly who rarely ran locos bunker first as apart from Buncrana to Tooban Junction
  18. One Horsepower!
  19. Photos of GNR Railcar C2 after 1958 are as rare as hens teeth as the lines it was used on were all closed effectively in the 1957 Purge
  20. In Belfast today and plan to try and buy a copy of this new book. Failed visited 2 bookshops who told me to try Amazon. Third bookshop said we will order it but it is not published till February! So no new book bought!
  21. In Belfast today and plan to try and buy a copy of this new book.
  22. We are doing an official tomorrow evening at 17.00 from the Donegal Railway Heritage Centre. There are plans to live stream this book launch. All sales of thos book published by the DRHC support our preservation work in Donegal Town.
  23. Thanks Mike for positive comments about my article on the 4-6-2Ts of the Lough Swillynin the latest Backtrack. The model.of No 12 is based on the High Legh Railway in Knutsford. The owner only passed away earlier this year and the future was still.uncertain when I visited this line in September 2021
  24. Catching up on this with some comments. This loco is built for 7 and a quarter inch. Took over 20 years to build and the owner passed away only months after completion. The issue of colour of the Swilly engines is difficult. The notes of HS Irvine who lived in Derry in the last years have been useful. On the cover of my new Lough Swilly book I have used a colour painting with permission from Lord O'Neill showing both black and green liberties. Backtrack has just published ny article on the Swilly Pacific tanks with a stunning colour photo of Numbet 15 in the black livery from 1953!
  25. The staff at that miniature railway told me it is too powerful to use in regular service! Has to be seen to be believed
