  1. Wonder if a bit of reverse engineering went on there?
  2. The 800 class kit is a seriously complicated place to start for an absolute beginner to etched kit building. I'd suggest starting with something simple, like SSM's 30T brake van, then working up to something like a J26 before tackling the 800. I'd also recommend getting a copy of Iain Rice's 'Etched Loco Construction', which covers all aspects in an easy to read manner. Copies available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Etched-Loco-Construction-Iain-Rice/dp/090686786X Although I see it's cheaper from Pendon Museum (not sure of P&P charge though): http://www.pendonmuseum.com/shop/view.php?id=45&category=6
  3. For the last time: Handbags! Door! Now, back on topic...
  4. Folks, can you leave the handbags at the door please? Thanks.
  5. Fair enough, Noel, but would more general questions not have sufficed in some instances? There seems to be an abundance of questions relating to CIÉ/IÉ, while pre-grouping/steam and narrow gauge is pretty much absent, as is the whole of Northern Ireland...
  6. By all means, sketch something up and then post it here if you need further assistance or advice on the design...
  7. Can I ask why the focus of the survey is so narrow (121s and A class) when the timeline for these models has already been laid out? Would it not make more sense to look further down the line at options which have not already been explored. How about ready-to-run C class v Sulzer or a J15 v J26?
  8. Cheers Dhu Varren... got confused and thought that was the NCC number series.
  9. Great info there, Dhu Varren. Any chance you know what numbers the coaches carried in UTA service?
  10. You're not taking into account the nostalgia people have for the 121s, too. Add to that the fact they saw service across five decades and hauled every type of train on the network. Plus, they can be run in multiple with the 141/181 class. I'm conscious this discussion is bringing the thread off-topic, and has been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere, so maybe better to discuss in one of the pre-existing threads on the matter.
  11. Never said anything about future releases, but the 121 is ahead of the A in the pecking order.
  12. The 121 is definitely next in line.
  13. My sentiments exactly... superb modelling!
  14. Sad news... Leonard Nimoy has passed away at the age of 83. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/27/arts/television/leonard-nimoy-spock-of-star-trek-dies-at-83.html?smid=tw-bna&_r=1
  15. Fingers crossed we'll have a recruit for the next generation of modellers!
  16. Ah ha... only had a vague recollection of seeing it here. Cheers HF!
  17. Did someone here build a model of one a while back? A4Mallard, maybe?
  18. That MGWR working timetable looks like it was just printed last week!
  19. Story here: http://topic.ie/video-mullingar-explosion-shakes-housing-estate/ Vandals/morons broke in during the early hours of Monday morning, lit a fire in an empty oil drum, and then flung an 85kg cylinder of oxy-acetylene gas into it... [video=youtube;-capN8X6qu8]
  20. At least over here, the horses were responsible employees... Fintona 1950's by MajorCalloway, on Flickr
  21. Great insight there from the policeman!
  22. Ah here, JB... there's no white lining on that numbering.
  23. I think that's a wee bit disingenuous... it's a 'love it or hate it' livery alright, but a lot of enthusiasts are in the 'love it' camp. Personally, I think it looks good.
  24. Looks like a four-wheel pallet fertiliser wagon.
  25. Typo indeed... better go fix that now!
