  1. At least the undercarriage isn't black.
  2. Mmm, apparently, he had chills, and they were multiplying - it sounds like it was probably just a straightforward 'flu.
  3. Very little to report from today's inspection. The footbridge lighting has been renovated. It was wet and windy, it being a day in 2020 with a vowel in it... It was noted there there were a few cars parking in the 'ballast yard', possibly semi-officially, but parking is becoming a real issue there now, I would have been hard put to find a place to leave the car for more than the few minutes that I was there.
  4. Obviously, your account has been hacked.
  5. Insist on using a scale rule.
  6. Back again. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-51789577 "We are ready to respond to any unidentified aircraft and potential airborne threats, 24/7/365." - Not the perfect claim to make in a Leap Year.
  7. Of course, the C-19 arrived here many years ago, in the form of this Avro Anson variant.
  8. All attempts at improvement are to be welcomed...
  9. Some people have given all this some very deep thought - well, as deep as they can...
  10. Money in the form of cash, door handles, handshaking, etc., are all potential routes for transmission of all sorts of things. Anybody with any concerns is welcome to allow any cash they are suspicious of to rest in my account...
  11. Never underestimate the availability of stupidity. During one of the artificial fuel shortages on the Big Island a few years ago, my local filling station was subject to the usual panic buying queues. This clogged the roads so much, that the replenishment tanker couldn't get there when it was empty. Also, even though under pressure, the cashier spotted that a car had been 'filled' with far more fuel than it should be capable of carrying - and a fish tank was discovered on the back seat. Also, someone else was apprehended trying to fill a wheelie bin with petrol. Masks are more about reduced infection from the wearer. Viruses may well be small, but the idea is to catch the materials that the virus is travelling on, rather than individual virus particles.
  12. Even in the late '60s, in Hampshire, we were still getting paraffin delivered by a horse-drawn 'Esso Blue' tanker. The quality of the signwriting would lead me to believe that the tank, probably about an 80 gallon oval one, was a bona fide Esso product.
  13. He once had a twenty minute violent agreement with a chap, until I could stand no more and shouted at them until they finally understood that they were both saying exactly the same thing, but from opposite directions. There is an amusing materials-based story involving asbestos, but I'll have to tell you that verbally one day, as it's not suitable for a public scenario...
  14. You may have come across Dave Gorman the comedian? I worked with his father, who I remember being a huge fan of Tufnol, to the point where it almost became a running gag in itself, long before his boy took up joke-telling for a living.
  15. When I had a 'real' job, these materials were in widespread use We also had Paxolin and Permali, plus quite a few other more 'modern' composite materials. Permali was particularly nice - resin impregnated beechwood plies. It is fantastically tough - and takes a beautiful finish. Tufnol always struck me as a sort of artificial boxwood substitute, in the way that its properties were not directional at all, and it was so 'fine-grained' that almost any size/shape combination would be OK.
  16. Many years ago, I built a kit car - a 30s-style MG sort of thing, using Morris Minor parts, mostly. There were some quite nice wire-wheel style wheel covers available at the time, but only in sets of four, which was a shame, as the spare was exposed and a fifth one would have been nice, but the manufacturer/importer would not be moved on supplying a single, so I resolved to make a cover for the spare, rather than buying eight and having three left over. At that time, my road was notoriously potholed and, before I started to sort out the cover, I was working in the front garden one day and was very nearly hit by a flying wheel cover. It was an exact match for the four in the set that I had just bought.
  17. Mmm, it is for me now, too...
  18. ^ The video has gone, that can mean that they may be contemplating a prosecution...
  19. Did you leave out "fluffy and moth-eaten"..?
  20. A preliminary assessment has taken place - as before, the brakes appear to be seized on the 'off' position - and there seems to be no oil in the buffers for damping purposes - otherwise, they seem OK.
  21. I understand, from my Goods Receiving personnel, that mine have arrived. I'm currently assembling the necessary quality assessment protocols and should be able to give a preliminary report in a few day's time.
  22. Even with the recent extension, Cork is not a huge place - in UK terms, it's between Wolverhampton and Bolton in size, neither of which are really stand-alone places, more like large suburbs of even larger cities. In terms of 'isolated' conurbations, Aberdeen, Luton and Norwich would be fairly similar in population.
  23. If you do make a mess of one of your containers, there's no need to panic, just put it to one side, as a special feature.
  24. In the past, there were many prophets, scattered about the wilderness, slowly converting the faithful with their craven images.
