Dempsey Posted December 12, 2023 Author Posted December 12, 2023 In the latest update I have spent the last while working on a number of scratch built cottages which face onto the road which will run the rear of the layout. The is still more details to add before painting. Also the view on the last picture, I plan to cut the backscene to allow viewing up along the street with the chance to see some train movements in the background toward the bridge. Your thoughts as always are appreciated. Chris. 16 2 Quote
JasonB Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Lovely stuff @Dempsey. We all get enjoyment from modelling, but there's something extra special when scratch building. I'm really enjoying watching this layout progress. Great work. 1 2 Quote
Dempsey Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 Absolutely, it really adds to the personal touch of a layout. Glad your enjoying the progress 2 Quote
Dempsey Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 Latest update at Barracks Street. The wiring as you can see if fully completed and tested. This includes the point motors and switches. There motors and switching harness was done with a 9v battery and pending the arrival of the power supply. I also built a control panel for the point switches. Your thoughts as always are appreciated. Chris 9 1 Quote

Nice milestone to reach The ocd took over a bit with the routing of wiring but happy with the results. You are spot on on that front, glad to have it done and look forward to a bit of shunting around before working on some of the building lighting. 4 Quote
Dempsey Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 With the wiring fully completed a few issues have developed. 1. There is a dead section of track. This is on a point which was never intended to have a point motor as it is permanently set into the yard. While it had been pre wired I simple overlooked wiring it up. 2. The point motor at the far end of the yard has seized up, and won't throw. I've disconnected it and retested with a new 9v. Unfortunately it looks like I'll need a new one. On the other hand I did have some time to do some shunting. 20240128_190627.mp4 10 Quote
DJ Dangerous Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Lovely stuff! The sound is just wonderful. Did you re-wire the loco lighting for shunting? 1 Quote

Dempsey Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Now the scenic work can continue with all the gremlins worked out electronically. 4 Quote

ttc0169 Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Sounds like a 201 sound chip in the 121? What a a re-engined 121 would have sounded like. 4 Quote
Dempsey Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 No, 121 sound chip according to the package. 1 Quote
Patrick Davey Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Fabulous videos @Dempsey, this is my kind of layout, compact, great detail and plenty of operating potential! Am with @ttc0169 though on the sound chip, it sounds a bit different from mine...? 2 1 Quote
Dempsey Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 I bought it marks. Although an esu decoder I did find it odd it came in a MM package 2 Quote

I'll record a video of this and the start up and maybe you can provide more insight? 2 Quote

Dempsey Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 20240218_102249.mp4 Rrecorded start up of my 121 with the sound chip I recently bought. The opposite cab cab and bonnet lights to the direction of travel if someone has any idea about this I'd appreciate any info. 3 Quote

Dempsey Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 Unfortunately the sound chip is indeed an 201. Thank too @ttc0169 for your help. I'll be making contact tomorrow to organise a correct chip. On the other hand i finally got the lenght of the back scene up along the back to box in the layout. 9 Quote

Eagled eyed indeed. The coaches are ex scotrail mk2s I'm repainting for myself. Here is one I finished earlier. And don't worry there is no oil under barracks Street so the hmmwvs won't be bringing any freedom. 6 1 Quote
