BabyGM Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 Here are two things I'm going to enter into the MRSI competition First is my J15I detailed it and weathered it using weathering powders, however the last job to do, the varnishing went wrong. What I thought was matt varnish turned out to be gloss Here are the results I also made the same mistake with a Mk 3 buffet I converted to the Irish style, the varnish was matt instead of gloss Quote
Glenderg Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Both look stunning, I can't see what the varnish problem is! Love the valves and pipework attention in the cab, god bless your eyesight! Richie. Quote

Richie. Thanks Richie In person and in proper light the J15 is very shiny as apposed to the original matt finish before varnish The Mk 3 isn't so bad because I weathered it afterwards Quote
kevrail Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Great work. Keep the pics and updates coming. This is a great thread. Quote
burnthebox Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Very well done, especially the attention you have given to the pipework, don't see anything wrong with the varnish, they both look just fantastic, now don't forget the video Quote
BabyGM Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 Thanks lads I might be able to get a video by the weekend Quote
BabyGM Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Hi guys Perhaps not relevant here but here is an O gauge 16T mineral wagon Parkside Dundas kit Apart from some confusing instructions and a few missing parts the kit wasn't too bad. Here it is with my Southern Q class Two more projects A scratchbuilt 4 wheel luggage or heating van And an A1 I got at model rail scotland for £25 that needs improving sorry that its upside down Quote
Glenderg Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Very relevant annd very tasty too. 0 gauge too! Keep up the good work brian. Richie. Quote
BabyGM Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Thanks for all the encouragement lads its much appreciated Quote
enniscorthyman Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Great work, and I would love to see more of this scale. Quote
Warbonnet Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Just wondering why there was a few missing parts Brian; was the kit second hand or was it a mistake by park side? They're usually quite good. Must pick a few up myself. Quote
BabyGM Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Thanks Eamonn Fran, I'm not sure if the problem is with parkside the kit is new as I got it from them directly in Glasgow ,I suspect it may be a problem with the instructions or perhaps I just mislaid the piece I may have more 0 gauge stuff done for next weekend Quote

BabyGM Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Todays project was a scratchbuilt 121. I'm using a 141 chassis and I'm also cannibalising some of the parts and details Construction is entirely plasticard. Alot o tidying up to do and the roof is a pain in the arse to get right The only problem during the build was the weights/cab supports on the no 2 end which took about an hour off filling and cutting to get to the correct height Brian Quote
Riversuir226 Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Great work so far Brian, will be keeping my eye on this one:tumbsup: Quote
heirflick Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Baby - thats some baby! looking forward to seeing the finished job. . Quote
BabyGM Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 The 121 is now finished and was just in time for the MRSI competition, just(The paint was still wet) I painted it in the original grey livery though I think I'll strip and repaint it as there are many blemishes because I used primer as the topcoat. Anyway here are some pictures: Transfers and wipers are studio scale models which are excellent, paint is Rust oleum grey primer and brush painted humbrol matt yellow, all handrails are guitar D strings and hand painted Brian Quote
heirflick Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 well done there brian - she turned out well! did you give her a run yet? Quote
BabyGM Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Thanks Seamus I ran her in the club last friday on her own but i cant wait to see a rake of cravens or 1950s/60s freight wagons behind a double header. I suppose it'll be typical that now I have scratchbuilt this, Paddy will announce an RTR one Quote
Dave Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Looks great, are you planning to build a second one? Quote
