Or use a heavier piece of wood for the lever so it never warps or changes shape. Neat piece of work 1
Patrick Davey Posted August 13 Author Posted August 13 (edited) Delighted to meet ‘The Countess’ tonight, or at least her chassis and running plate! @Tullygrainey Alan is making great progress with our joint project to build Ballycastle Railway loco No. 2 ‘Countess of Antrim’ for Capecastle 2. I’ll probably spoil it when I try building the rest of it Thanks Alan - your precision is, as always, remarkable! Edited August 13 by Patrick Davey 10
Tullygrainey Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I have every confidence in you Patrick. It'll be grand! 1
Patrick Davey Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 (edited) SOMETHING EXCITING!!! A while back I noticed that @J-Mo Arts of this parish had done some amazing work creating a CAD image of the locomotive I’m hoping to have running on Capecastle, Ballycastle Railway No. 2 ‘Countess of Antrim’. He very kindly sent the CAD file to me and a friend had a go at printing it, and the results are very encouraging! The Countess has returned to Capecastle!! Alan and I are currently assessing the potential of this print as it was done using a mid-range printer, so it may not be fully useable as it is but it’s certainly a fantastic start!! With sincere thanks to @J-Mo Arts A short clip of The Countess running on Alan’s previously built brass chassis. I am being totally spoilt here, between @Tullygrainey Alan building the chassis and @J-Mo Arts providing the body! FullSizeRender.MOV Edited August 25 by Patrick Davey 7 2
Patrick Davey Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 Coincidentally, I happened to be at Capecastle today and with the owner’s kind permission, I took some more photographs. 9

J-Mo Arts Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Very pleased to be able to contribute to what is shaping up to be a fantastic project. Capecastle is a very modellable scene, and in fact where I was planning on modelling to run my own No2! Very much enjoying watching this develop! 3 1
jhb171achill Posted August 26 Posted August 26 This is pure GOLD DUST!!! The Irish narrow gauge is awash with amazing potential for models. This just proves it! 1
Patrick Davey Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 Update on the 3D printing: The excellent file created by @J-Mo Arts has now been printed on a resin printer - quite an improvement from the previous print! 12 5
Galteemore Posted August 30 Posted August 30 That looks lovely. Great design and has turned out well. 2 2

Patrick Davey Posted Monday at 15:05 Author Posted Monday at 15:05 (edited) Working now on the Ballycastle Railway's 'Countess of Antrim' - specifically preparing the superb 3D print from @J-Mo Arts for painting. I have decided to remove the moulded handrails and replace them with separate fittings, and there will also be etched nameplates added to finish off the locomotive. The chimney has also been filed out. The resin is quite brittle but files off easily. A spray of Halford's grey primer shows up areas that require further attention. As always, continued thanks to Alan @Tullygrainey for his ongoing assistance! Edited Monday at 15:06 by Patrick Davey 11

Dunluce Castle Posted Monday at 22:38 Posted Monday at 22:38 That looks excellent. Is that a model of one of the narrow gauge hopper wagons I spy in the background of your earlier post? 1

Hi Nelson - yes, good spot! @J-Mo Arts also did a superb CAD of one of those vehicles but am not sure if they were original BR stock or later NCC additions. I suspect the latter which would put them out of my era Edited yesterday at 12:59 by Patrick Davey
Patrick Davey Posted 22 hours ago Author Posted 22 hours ago How's this for a 'meant to be' situation..... I have just ordered custom etched nameplates and builder plates for my 5.5mm model of 'The Countess of Antrim' and I had to look up the build year and the works number - the year was 1879 and guess what the works number was..... 555!!! Just missing a decimal point!!! 2
