leslie10646 Posted Monday at 18:29 Posted Monday at 18:29 It was with great regret that I got the news from Facebook this morning that David Wynne, a member of the South Dublin MRC and passionate N Gauge modeller, has died after a stroke, from which he never regained consciousness. Although he didn't contribute to this forum, as far as I remember, he was omnipresent at exhibitions, North and South, showing his continental layouts in 2mm scale. Many of you will have known him, have met him and have enjoyed his quiet good humour and enthusiasm for his chosen smaller scale modelling. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Margaret and daughter Shirley at this very sad time. We have lost a staunch supporter of the hobby. May he Rest in Peace and Rise to Glory. 14 1
murrayec Posted Monday at 20:54 Posted Monday at 20:54 Very sad, he visited the Train & Model Fair last month, I had a quick chat with him and he was in good form...... RIP 2
Jack_Dunboyne Posted Monday at 22:50 Posted Monday at 22:50 I'm devastated. He was a great lad, good friend. Always there to chat. 2
jhb171achill Posted Monday at 23:57 Posted Monday at 23:57 An absolute gentleman. I had known him, though never that well, for some 40 years. A huge loss to his club, and the hobby. Rest in peace, David, and my condolences to the family. 1
Flying Snail Posted Tuesday at 09:33 Posted Tuesday at 09:33 May David rest in peace, my condolences to his friends and family. 2
Georgeconna Posted Tuesday at 12:06 Posted Tuesday at 12:06 Ah thats sad news indeed. Had a nice chat about continental NG in Wexford and as usual learnt a lot from the conversation! Always a stalwart of exhibitions and will be missed. https://rip.ie/death-notice/david-wynne-dublin-rathmines-635018 1
MikeO Posted Tuesday at 18:37 Posted Tuesday at 18:37 He did not contribute to this form but he was very much a stalwart supporter of the model railway hobby in all its scales. He introduced me to the T-Trak modular system about 15 years ago. That in due course led to my attempts to model N Gauge Irish stock. He was a good friend and mentor and will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace. 1
Galteemore Posted Tuesday at 18:41 Posted Tuesday at 18:41 Only met him once but left an impression of a really decent man. Influential outside modelling too https://dublin.anglican.org/news/2026/06/30/death-of-david-j-wynne 2
Warbonnet Posted Wednesday at 17:16 Posted Wednesday at 17:16 On behalf of everyone at IRM we would like to extend our sincere condolences to David's family, fellow club members and friends. Although very much a continental modeller in N, he would visit us at every show both home and abroad that he attended, and offer us his best wishes and words of encouragement. A sad loss to our hobby and community. RIP David. 4
