Hi

As far as know sanders have been done away with because of the damage caused to the rails-n-wheels. Modern locos are all equipped with electronic traction control, though as Stephen says- 071's are obviously too old

A great way to get square wheels... keeps the wheel lathe in business.

Lovely!! Do they have sanders?

The last locos to be supplied with sandboxes were the Metro Vicks, and they were soon removed.

This happened on the Conn Central when they were on Amtraks Springfield line. Apparently the engineer was new and the train was stopped but he kept the throttle out. YIKES!!!

Apprently it was a consist, and it was left stopped in place for 4 hours, but two of the locos were actualy spinning in place. Various theories including lack of 'skill' of the crew, or a kinked or damaged MU linkup :)
