h gricer Posted March 8, 2015 Share Posted March 8, 2015 I think the original order was 100 locomotives from Metropolitan Vickers, 60 A classes and 40 C classes, but with the closure of branch lines and other cut backs, the order was reduced to 34 C classes, in total 94 locomotives where delivered. The statement '... 99 engines made by Crossley Brothers Ltd to power their locomotives ...' refers to 63 engines for the A class (3 spares) and 36 for the C class (2 spares).
