That looks really really excellent! The sandy lane in particular looks so realistic.

Yes, the way it widens on the bend due to the separation of the wheel-tracks as they turn - excellent detail!

Thanks! I was trying to add at least a little bit of scenery. That project will take few years to complete. I will just present stage one :)

Will you be selling flatpack modules at the show to try get people into the FREMO community?

Nope :( But I can gather the orders to organise cheaper delivery. Please let me know if anybody is looking for the starter pack :)

I reckon that you might be able to tempt the odd person with an impulse buy, probably moreso than taking orders.

Once you've got them hooked, after the initial impulse buy, and they need more, then order away.

Time to back to work. The last few months were.... Ehh, it's better to forget...

So. The October show present is confirmed for FREMO layout. Approx 26 meters of layout is now being tested. Few new modules are ready. This time we will present the layout with my neighbour Grzegorz.

His part:

Taking into account the requests from last year's exhibition, the high of the modules were reduced to 100 cm

The total length of the layout for October show reach 28 meters (including two fiddle yards, two stations, and few meters of scenic track :), all in U shape 20x4 meters) I case there will be no enough space we will reduce number of scenic track modules.

I know you lads have it earlier that us but thats hit well early!!

Lovely loco Jack, Some nice bargains popping up HO wise I have noticed as well. I do find it strange the some of the valve gear on the continental models is plastic. The UK stuff seems to be all metal.

I came across a vid about the red painted frames and wheels on you tube and it was the ideal colour to detect cracks apparently and not for Atheistic reasons!

Only Piko and Gützold (still) use plastic for outside motion. That's been a thing ever since the 1970s when the East Germans had to make the best of whatever resources were available. I'm not sure what grade of plastic they use, but they have perfected the method over the years and, in the rare event of anything breaking, spares are cheaper to buy. I've only ever had to replace one coupling rod on a Gützold DR Br65.10 2-8-4T, costing no more than a fiver.

The "clip-fit" technique makes the motion parts easy to fit, with no riveting required.

The upside of all that was that the shop prices were about a third to a half of their Western rivals, so offered UK modellers (traditionally notorious for short arms and deep pockets) a cheap way into Continental HO. I remember testing a Piko Br.03 Reko which was priced here in 1985 for thirty quid brand-new. The nearest Western equivalent, a Fleischmann Br.01 (they didn't start making 03s until later) was already above £70.

Right now the total length of the Polish fremo layout is approx 180 ft among 5 of us. With the total track length of 300 ft.
