As a kid I never got one for as a present despite being annually listed on the Santa list but while courting my now wife gave me a nicely wrapped big box that contained an F1 set with Jordan and William cars!! After a lot of racing the front wings and rear wings detached and about 2 kilos of super glue added over time! Planning to have a bundle of sons to play with the best way to expand was to buy sets in Argos, ended up with about 150ft of track which needed power droppers. Then digital came along which enhanced the racing big time with crossovers and braking. Fantastic system especially with two transformers powering each track so no spikes in power when another car comes off. Every so often I invited a few friends come along and have race nights with a few beers, All good fun The planned sons turned out to be into daughters when the missus popped them out and in the end the sets were never used and were sold off to a lad in Carlow that buys and sells them. Had a nice collection of cars, my favourite was the Subaru 4wd stuck like glue to the track and a Ford Focus Police car with lights and siren which was re wired so the siren only came on when the car moved instead of all the time. Also had the motorbikes which were pure shite and the old stuff and track you cant give away Great fun though and good memories and a cracking toy. The new cars are so expensive and delicate its a tough call to drive them! Always fancied the TCR stuff, the adds sold it really but I understand in practice they were not that great.

Hi Folks, A quiet of late, Cold in the shed, Car cost over a grand to fix so funds are low so just doing some small details around the layout. On the plus side I got news from the Austrian supplier that sold me a lovely ROCO steam set with sound about the busted sound decoder. The sound decoder packed in after 2 weeks of intermittent use and was posted back to the Shop. I received this email below yesterday to say the a replacement decoder was coming back to me but the lad funded it out of his own pocket and ROCO had zero interest in helping For me these are Premium models and perhaps am I a bit naïve to expect a premium service when things go wrong but I feel really sorry for the Supplier in Graz as the decoders are not cheap. Really disappointed to hear that ROCO had no interest in coming up with a solution, I expected more from these Continental Companies really but then again Heller (plastic kit company) also ignored a plea for missing parts for about 5 months (an Email to the MD managed to get someone attention and then the parts came through) Then you look at Accurascale / IRM and the service you get there. Miles apart.

More fun and games coming down the line. 11 February 2026, the Council formally approved new customs duty rules for items contained in small parcels entering the EU, largely via e-commerce. The new rules respond to the fact that such parcels currently enter the EU duty free, leading to unfair competition for EU sellers. The agreement abolishes the threshold-based customs duty relief for parcels valued at under €150 entering the EU. Customs tariffs will therefore start applying to all goods entering the EU once the EU customs data hub – under discussion as part of a broader fundamental reform of the customs framework – is operational. This is currently expected in 2028. Until that time, EU member states have agreed to introduce an interim flat rate customs duty of €3 on items contained in small parcels valued at less than €150 sent directly to consumers in the EU. As of 1 July 2026, the duty will be levied on each different category of item, identified by their tariff sub-headings, contained in a parcel. Example: A parcel contains 1 blouse made of silk and 2 blouses made of wool. Therefore, due to their different tariff sub-headings, the parcel contains two distinct items and €6 in customs duty should be paid. Next steps The interim flat rate customs duty of €3 will be levied on each item category contained in a small parcel entering the EU from 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2028 and may be extended as appropriate. Once the new EU customs data hub is operational, this interim duty will be replaced by normal customs tariffs. Even your beloved 0% train stuff will be hit so you need to be savvy with your order.

Sadly the old crossing at Cappagh Waterford has been wiped off the earth forever. I lovely land mark on my way home I would give a little loco whistle as I drove past. Standing since 1967 it would of made a lovely feature for someone with some imagination. Wonder what happened to the metal gate post.

1st build of 2026. The VTOL YAK-38. Hataka Lacquers were used with AK Acrylic varnish used at the end. Interesting jet.

It is Fran, I have similar amount of UK Coaches not to mind the wagons on top, daftness. Picking up things here and there it soon mounts up and will I ever get the my opus magnus done is the question given with the cost of the hobby escalating. Same for the plastic kits I have bought over the years, all add up. The 6x3 HOe layout I would say is topping €1000 notes and that's not including stock! The stream is costing about €80...crazy Its not a price thing for myself its practicality really. I get envious of the lad with the samller layouts like Arun Quay Keep up the good work!

My Grandfather initially worked on the Southern from Nine Elms on Top link (signed photo from Bullied of day of the 1st MN to leave Waterloo in my mothers house, need to locate that), Then went Barnstaple where my father was born (1945) and then moved to Erith (SE London) and was on Electrics from Waterloo so Defo SER. Retired in Tunbridge Wells with Dementia so never got to talk to the man really. Lots of Cuneo prints handing in my Grandmothers house. all lost to time... Bloody sisters muck that up I reckon.
