Question 2 - the Inchicore scene was made by a professional model maker - from Enniskillen I think. Drew did not do scenery - operation was his thing.

Books are a great resource both for information and inspiration! Unlike years ago, finding 2nd hand books is fairly straightforward. Sites such as Biblio and Abebooks make it easy, so titles that I regret not buying can be snapped up. I’d passed by the Flying Snail book a few times but kept coming back to it. One you probably should look for, given your interests, is Clements and McMahon - ‘Locomotives of the GSR’.

I have vague memories of this place in the early 70s when the NWIRS had a short demonstration line at the side of this property - I dimly recall a railcar shuttling back and forth. In the early days post closure, the business proprietor who owned the site used a railway signal to indicate whether the premises were open or shut.

That’s it. On way to Whitehead either that day or later. I grew up in Carrick too - and went to school by train from 1983-89 - but never saw track in that yard, although the sheds were still there.

Great stuff - l like what’s on the screen -can’t beat a bit of Sligo Leitrim! Every blessing for your family at this time - can see why you need a place of retreat and solace. And a nice candid view of the man who has given us access to so many wonderful modelling research photos....

Anthony Burges’ ‘Chasing the Flying Snail’ makes reference to a trip on D5 no 550 in 1953. His experience was unfortunate due to appalling fuel which led to abysmal steaming (he fired the loco on at least part of the trip from Dublin to Dromod). He was glad to leave the footplate - the rough riding can’t have helped ! (Original post edited to reflect my mistake).

Nice drawing. You can do it yourself with a flat piece of brass rolled round a broom handle or dowel - bit laborious but can be done. Or use brass tube - which can be a heat sink though and thus hard to solder. If you’re going to be doing a bit of this over time, slip rollers such as these are a good investment - they will roll a flat sheet into either a gentle curve or a complete tube and anything in between; also useful for forming wagon roofs etc.....

Yes indeed - support the Home Team! If they haven’t got it, Slaters are good for 7mm wheels and will supply Irish loco axles on request. Buffers - try Roxey Mouldings or Northants Model Railway Supplies.

For a loco body 10 thou brass is fine - you can brace it with brass angle etc as you go. Chassis would require a thicker metal ideally. This is a rather good link. I think you’d need to break that rather nice drawing down into a few elements. The cab, splashers etc generally need built up separately.
