  1. But Reverend Mother, we thought this counted as ‘doing the stations’….
  2. Class 55- Boats? They are Deltics. This is one where I’m not confused, I’m angry. No need for ire. The Napier Deltic was originally a marine engine, and the power unit was used by the Royal Navy right up to 2018.
  3. Re coaches, old Mainline LMS ones have a nice almost Irish appearance. Not expensive either.
  4. Gibbo - don’t want to disrupt @Patrick Davey thread so posting here:my six penny worth on GNR coaches. I have mine as a backdrop in my layout - just resin sides basically. But fully loaded with handrails etc to give the right illusion! Base coat of Matt brown. Light coat of orange. Top coat of streaky Phoenix paints mahogany….colour based on photos of the old stock used on the lNW lines west of Dundalk.
  5. Rocking the puns as always, PD…..
  6. And how does it suddenly change from ‘train station’ in the wee six to ‘rail station’ in Saorstat Eireann?? Some translation subtlety between Ulster Scots and Erse?
  7. A masterclass in the subtleties of tone and texture
  8. Absolutely Mayner - spot on comparison. Imagine an Irish Pendon…..no pressure, Kevin! Fabulous work and most inspiring.
  9. Glimpsed at very back of woodwork shop at Cultra recently….
  10. Opinion is certainly Polaris-ed on the matter. Some people have gone ballistic over it.
  11. Sorry @LNERW1 and @Horsetan, I should have added an irony emoji!! I find it hard enough to model 5’3” clearances in 7mm never mind T…..As I hinted in my original post, T is the perfect scale for impressionist rather than perfectionist modelling ….
  12. You might also have an opportunity to fit dummy valve gear, as I think the splashers are moulded into the flat plastic panel which in real life would be daylight under the boiler. . Removing the splashers outwards will open that space up as it should be. Thankfully Jinty bodies are straightforward to pick up used so you can have a play around with some old ones before tackling that lovely UTA livery!
  13. But has anyone produced anything to scale 5’3”? In all seriousness, would be a great way to tackle some of the set piece scenic features of the Irish system such as the Valencia Road viaducts, with an emphasis on sweep of vista rather than the stock
  14. Wizard models, Ambis, Smiths all do them. Planning on using them for operation?
  15. Interesting chat with Galteemore snr yesterday who recalls NG steam at Ballyclare -on footplate of a Larne Aluminium loco on the lifting train c1953!! Imagine the noise of that up Inver bank!!
  16. Echoes of a Southern Maunsell Q - esp around frame/ splasher interface
  17. Patterson makes odd remark that line was lifted in June 1940 and shipped to France for use by BEF. This sounds like a real urban myth. No way that BEF in June 1940 was looking for light railways! Small ships, perhaps….
  18. Wow that’s fabulous Alan! Must be working the famous Copeland Islands boat train!
  19. Mayner’s comments on the Alphagraphix one are correct, as I built one to MGWR style and it involved turning some etches inside out to hide the rivets! A cast early smokebox door and alternative chimney were included - I imagine that the GSR pattern will be easy to find off the shelf, whereas a 4mm modeller may need to turn their own MGW style chimney.
  20. Sorry Mark - you haven’t been on the forum for a bit. Sadly Ken died earlier this year, which has left a huge hole in our midst.
  21. Yes, it struck me as very ‘with it’ for the build date, when domestic flush toilets were only beginning to become a feature of new middle class house builds. Mind you, this is 1st class. A fabulous project bringing a much neglected area of railway history to life.
  22. Would certainly be convenient
  23. The NG stuff is gorgeous. The 21mm gauge GNR stuff is stunning. Interesting to see these are built by Jeremy Suter Fancy a steam special, @murphaph? Wonder if @Horsetanknows anything of the provenance of these. Looks good enough to have graced Adavoyle.
  24. Great. Could be a nice little fundraiser ……
  25. Ok I give up. Which one was Wallace and which one Gromit?
