  1. Those look fabulous. Can only imagine how wonderful a GNRI JT produced by you would look….
  2. It’s great pic Patrick. Also shows the dying days of GN steam - 171 was eking out her last days before preservation.
  3. In 7mm, I was intrigued to see that Gladiator have just brought out a ‘limousine cab’ Fowler tank. Modify that bunker and you’re well on the way to a very fair copy of a WT…biggest issue is drivers are 5’9” and not 6’….
  4. Excellent progress. Well done for having a go at producing some stock of your own - looks the part.
  5. Very exciting David / great to see another Swilly tank emerging.
  6. All most interesting Paul. I still need to get round to weathering my scratch built 7mm one so will be following this with interest….
  7. Rapido are launching a Midland 483 - not a million miles off an NCC Scotch engine….
  8. Very nice work indeed Leslie. Should be very proud of that
  9. Wow. Fab work. The difference in size between 16.5mm and 21mm spacers is striking. And as a scratch builder too, spare strips and channels are always useful!
  10. Inretesting display of modelling philosophy John. Sometimes going into the workshop seems rather intimidating with all those projects to do. Richard Chown struggled with motivation at times and used to discipline himself to go into the workshop whether he felt like it or not - and commit to doing 20 minutes. More often than not he stayed longer as the motivation crept back.
  11. Looks a great bit of work Leslie - always more satisfying to make it yourself !
  12. Very nice Ernie. I have one of those SGs as well / it’s very good likeness of the prototype. I don’t know its provenance but think it’s possibly SSM?
  13. Of course, thanks Jim. BUT 134 worked back to Belfast after midnight on 14th but was not carrying anyone. Officially anyway…
  14. Both worthy activities Leslie! Is the loco sporting an NCC smokebox wheel? Needs a new capuchon too….but what a lovely photo
  15. Doubtless yesterday @leslie10646hoisted his flag to half mast and spent the day poring over his logs. For it marked 60 years since the last wheel turned on the Derry Road in normal service. The following pic is offered in mute tribute to those GNRI staff who made the line what it was - I almost felt I knew the whole thing vicariously via my dad’s memories, although I never knew what it was to hear a Big D barking out of Pomeroy.
  16. Most interesting David. Reading threads like this is instructive for all of us. I agree, early planning in a project saves some pain later on. Apparently all this problem solving is good for our brains as we age, too…
  17. Looks fabulous David. Very different to the CVR tanks and clerestorys that used to populate Fintonagh. Funny enough I thought of you when I saw the Zamzoodles in the Gazette!
  18. Now oddly enough 131 was a blue engine at one time….for an open day at Inchicore in 1968 she was painted blue…..preservation does awful thing sometimes …..
  19. Thanks. The PPs were never blue, so that simplifies things. As built, they were green but in this rebuilt form she’ll be black, like the other two in the pics.
  20. More fettling and fiddling lies ahead but most of the grunt work is done. Lots of scrubbing and cleaning and then we’ll try the primer. That will doubtless reveal all sorts…..something I have already noticed that she droops at the front end, so we’ll have to beef up the bogie spring.
  21. Absolutely gorgeous work. Looking forward to seeing this develop !
  22. Fabulous stuff and you obviously have real skill as a kit designer! You should be well pleased at how this is turning out.
  23. I know @murphaph was looking at producing a significant amount of track work in 21mm and was exploring various options. He may have an update on progress. In terms of commercialisation, I suspect that is really not an option. True to gauge Irish modelling is a niche within a niche, without even a lobbying society to support it.
  24. Tony was an incredible modeller - I think he’d been exposed to Irish railways via service in WW2, and he applied military precision to his modelling. I didn’t know him but my dad always spoke highly of him. Like JIC Boyd, a very committed Christian man and I think a lay preacher to boot. Don’t know if - as Boyd did - he carried a surplice on all his travels so he could join in worship with the local parish choir!
