    I have seen a few round Cardiff and the Greater London area in recent months on ‘company’ duty.

    Brilliant. On the whole, CIE narrow gauge locos seem to have been kept quite clean up until those last few years. 12 looked very different in 1959

    I did a bit of trial and error here. I made the main structure from card, used quoins from plasticard and then gave the quoins a little skim over with a thin layer of DAS to give texture. But there’s a number of ways to skin this particular cat….as you’re finding out. Looking good though.

    Learned about clamping the hard way when a set of loco frames broke loose at a thousand plus rpm. I was lucky to escape with grazes. Any chance of a close up on your suspension system, please @Northroader? Sounds an ideal fix.

    Yes, wouldn’t find them in a location where passengers would cross them. As @murphaphremarks, sometimes to be found in yards where the route switching is essentially predictable and the turnout will only ever operate in a certain sequence.IIRC Shane’s Castle 3’ line had a similar set up to allow quicker run round.

    Interesting one. How thick is the card ? I would try dry brushing something like Vallejo stucco, or gesso, which will also give a very fine textured surface. I used it on Florencecourt and then painted over it. You could also just paint it up slowly in layers of dry brush acrylic of your chosen shade.That will dry very fast and shouldn’t warp or distort the card. A quick waft of primer shouldn’t hurt - one or two quick passes with the can should be ok.

    That’s great stuff David - must have been great seeing trains running on it despite all the grief. Funnily enough I read the Dickens book during lockdown, and had been aware of your layout - I did wonder if you’d drawn inspiration from it! It was of course a place of great political division - never have that problem in an Irish setting

    Thanks David. As luck would have it, I have those 2 in a batch someone gave me. I had a good chat with Richard Ellis at Kettering trade show a few months ago and saw some of his own stuff- very tempting. Perhaps you have an ‘Enniskillen’ in progress on the bench ?

    That’s wonderful David. Lovely atmosphere, and the whole mise en scene blends in together so well. What are the MRJ issues please ? The SLNC loco looks fab with the red rods and nameplates, but I suspect it’s Fermanagh rather than Enniskillen;)
