I am member of a couple of Facebook groups and to be honest they're not for me. Just don't like the format and they tend to be closed which excludes people (here you can read all the info and not have to register if you so wish) but each to their own.
Interesting, thanks for the update. By the sound of the Rail Express snippet it looked like Heuston would be the new RPSI base in the Dublin area. Be interesting to see how it pans out.
Interesting that they used Virgin Trains as an example of comfortable railcar use. I've been on Voyagers and they're they worst mode of transport I've ever been on, and I've travelled on stuff with wooden benches for seats.
The push pulls are not air con stock. I reckon if a real will and finance was there they'd be saved. There doesn't seem to be much of the latter though.
While I wouldnt be the 201s biggest fan they sound better than the nondescript railcars we have and that will ultimately replace loco hauled passenger trains!
I have a Lima 201 in stock and have been thinking of a few ways of remotoring and detailing. Will add it to a workbench thread when I (hopefully) get around to it later this year.
They'd be a nice starting point for an open access freight operator to come in and use mind you. Wouldn't be surprised if they were turned into razor blades before that opportunity arose though.
Two CP rail SD40s arrived in West Dublin this morning well packed and in 1st class condition. Thanks Gareth!
If anyone is looking to get into the dark side I would recommend picking something like these locos up. Reasonably priced, excellent condition and excellent all round locomotives.
I wouldn't go as far as calling them anti-diesel, more that IE, insurance and possibly lack of enthusiast interest will scupper running them. As much as I would love to see a couple of Baby GMs double heading some specials personally.
