  1. Hornby have 2 Mk3s out in Network Rail yellow as it is and one of them happens to be a buffet coach, the other is a standard with some blanked out windows. Code is R4457. May be worth a look when we see the real things roll out.

7607 already has it's genys removed, notice the two holes in the roof at each end. If the train is to be air braked then that will mean modifying the 42ft flats to air brakes.

They are going to have to convert the brakes to vacuum on 7607 for the weed spray train. Don't know how easy that will be for the lads in Inchicore or has it ever been done to a Mk3 anywhere before.

I wonder why are the two Mk3s moved from Waterford going to Inchicore and not to Northwall for scrapping up north?

They can get 7 max in fine without fouling the points. The first set that went up was a 7 piece rake and from the photos posted online there was no issues getting them in to the scrap siding.
  6. As much as I'd love a few 121s, at the same time I'm not in much of a hurry. The reason being is that once PM releases the 121s where do we go from there? Is that it from PM. Do we get the MM treatment for a future A and C class maybe.

I reckon at least 3 more runs of 6-7 coaches depending on how many, if any will be kept. The big one will be to keep an eye out for 6305 and the Cafe/Bar coach.
  8. Is that the controls for the doors on Mk3 PPs next to the drivers door? Looks a real retrofit job alright.
  9. Were the grills replaced or something from them to be like that? No other 201s were like like that. Think 230 had grey filler pieces too since it went into Enterprise livery.
  10. All 201s got new LED marker lights from around 1997-1999 at the same time the mods for moving the MU sockets was performed. All 34 locos got the new lights and 32 got the socket mod.
  11. 203 and 220 cost more then the other 201s when they came out as production cost in China went up that year. Now though there seems to be more 203s and 210s around than the other 201s. About the NIR 201s, I hope they get the old style marker lights right on 208 and 209, it would be a nice touch. On the subject of 203, anyone know what happened the real thing before it got it's yellow face. From looking at photos it got white fillers on it's foot holders at the front and a white radiator grill.

We'll see if 224 takes them to Dundalk and then another 201 with TPWS takes them from there another day. It will be 224s first time on the northern line in about 5 years if it runs them up to Dundalk.
  13. I believe is was because of all the bashing the Lima 201 got for lacking in detail, so Murphy said right, I'll show them and so the new 201s came out to silence the nay sayers.
  14. Wow, just wow. Mr Murphy really is spoiling us. Better start putting in some overtime.
  15. Not until all the 201s and Mk2 are released and a good number leave the shelves. I''l be getting 2x 230 and 233 for re numbering to 206 and 207 anyways. The Galway standards have yet to be released too.
  16. I'd say the limited numbers will be 252 units like 111,113 and the slate 071s. That and the fact the 201s don't seem to be shifting as quick as the BGMs or 071s. You can still get all the 201s except for 201 itself easy enough.
  17. The 071s are just as good but some 201s need a bit of running in and even then they are not as smooth as the legacy locos imo. I did notice speed differences in some of the early release 071s. When I was running in 082 and 112, I found 082 to accelerate a bit faster and run at a higher speed for the same power setting than 112 did. But they ran great out of the box and didn't require running in at all.
  18. Finally the Enterprise 201s, and thankfully a full yellow face one too. Still no NIR blue 209 but 233 more than makes up for it. Poor old 230 never survived in service to see it's model hit the shelves.
  19. I think 2006 or 2007 was the last time Mk2Ds went to Belfast to fill in for a failed DD set. The Mk2s would have been taken off the early morning Sligo service ex Connolly and the spare Cravens set at Connolly sent to Sligo instead.

I don't think there is any point in trying to keep DVT 6305 if it is to be kept as from what I can see of what is left in North Wall none of them are push pull stock. Can't see any Mk3s being saved at this stage except 7601 at Dundalk as a spare for the spare Enterprise EGV.

I posted something silly and tried to delete the post, couldn't find the option and ended up editing it to a full stop.

They are really taking advantage of the space freed up by moving the latest rake to Dundalk. Didn't think they were that stuck for space in the yard. I'm just waiting to see what will happen to the DVT at this stage.

The company scrapping them are based in the north so it saves having to transport them on the back of a truck up the M1 like all the ones in Dundalk were.
  25. Didn't know that, how did that work with NIR stock being shunt released at Connolly as not all CIE GMs had their air brakes commissioned before the Mk3 entered service.
