  1. I'd say the limited numbers will be 252 units like 111,113 and the slate 071s. That and the fact the 201s don't seem to be shifting as quick as the BGMs or 071s. You can still get all the 201s except for 201 itself easy enough.
  2. The 071s are just as good but some 201s need a bit of running in and even then they are not as smooth as the legacy locos imo. I did notice speed differences in some of the early release 071s. When I was running in 082 and 112, I found 082 to accelerate a bit faster and run at a higher speed for the same power setting than 112 did. But they ran great out of the box and didn't require running in at all.
  3. Finally the Enterprise 201s, and thankfully a full yellow face one too. Still no NIR blue 209 but 233 more than makes up for it. Poor old 230 never survived in service to see it's model hit the shelves.
  4. I think 2006 or 2007 was the last time Mk2Ds went to Belfast to fill in for a failed DD set. The Mk2s would have been taken off the early morning Sligo service ex Connolly and the spare Cravens set at Connolly sent to Sligo instead.

I don't think there is any point in trying to keep DVT 6305 if it is to be kept as from what I can see of what is left in North Wall none of them are push pull stock. Can't see any Mk3s being saved at this stage except 7601 at Dundalk as a spare for the spare Enterprise EGV.

I posted something silly and tried to delete the post, couldn't find the option and ended up editing it to a full stop.

They are really taking advantage of the space freed up by moving the latest rake to Dundalk. Didn't think they were that stuck for space in the yard. I'm just waiting to see what will happen to the DVT at this stage.

The company scrapping them are based in the north so it saves having to transport them on the back of a truck up the M1 like all the ones in Dundalk were.
  9. Didn't know that, how did that work with NIR stock being shunt released at Connolly as not all CIE GMs had their air brakes commissioned before the Mk3 entered service.
  10. If they were Mk3s why are they at the back of the train seeing as they are air brakes and need to be next to the loco if the Mk2s have no air pipe through. Did the Huns even have air brakes?
  11. The Alstom DARTs and 2700 DMUs were true turkeys though. Reliability and mechanical problems throughout. 2700s only worked well in pairs and with regular maintenance. They were bad purchases by IE.
  12. You can add half the Mk4 fleet to that with only 2 sets a day seeing any used while the other 6 are left idle after only 6-7 years of use.
  13. The taras are the heaviest trains on the network. A fully laden tara can weigh 940 tons. Liners are limited to around 780 tons by IE. A 201 on a heavy liner can be more economical than an 071 as a 201 can accelerate quicker thus spending less time at higher power notches. 071s can handle the tara as there are not any inclines while it's laden unlike the laden IWT liners that 071s can struggle to haul out of North Wall with wet rails.
  14. It actually looks well in those pics imo. Very UK looking like what is on their Class 158s without the yellow.

They could lid the shale wagons like they did for the two shale wagons that were converted into taras.
  16. I see the UIC numbers have been added too.

What's still left at North Wall. I know at least 3 were scrapped there a few weeks back.
  18. I'm actually having problems with that seller. Bought a Mk2D over a week ago. No contact of any kind and no indication that they have shipped it either. I have Ebay and Paypal on to them to get my money back.

They already have a christmas tree EGV and half a DD set as one too.

It's being kept for the time being along with some other Mk3s in North Wall as part of a VSOE deal. Will probably end up for scrap again at some point.

Thanks for the info. That explains why I saw 217 in Connolly last week anyway. Odd that they'd send a 201 to Dundalk for that that doesn't work the Enterprise or would normally be on the northern main line. It's not like it was in the area type of thing.

Have those Mk3s at time been moved around? Last time I saw pics of Dundalk, the Mk3s were in two rakes and the two EGVs were together. Were some Mk3s moved to Northwall before scrapping began. There was more than 10 there.

Reports are that only 1 EGV survived at Dundalk and not 2 as suggested.
