  1. Ready for the road trial…58 020 prepares to depart from the MPD on Ashburton grove.

  3. Powered…..C class….Hunslet or 80 class. Unpowered….Park royal coach or a 47’ bogie container wagon as seen earlier
  4. More activity from Maam cross took place yesterday in between the thunderstorms…. Well wagon 649A arrived from Waterford and was put on the rails, Some building rubble was removed from around the signal cabin, Preparation of the ground along the goods loading and cattle bank siding was completed-this allowed the installation of a buffer stop and 5’3” track panel. Enjoy the photos….
  5. Friday evening fun on Tara junction, 124+134 work the FO Heuston-Ballina Cravens set as 127+132 work another Cravens set to Tralee 208 passes through working the Northwall-Belfast Adelaide BELL liner 177+129 work the Waterford-Ballina empty timber train 080 work the 17:00 Limerick-Heuston Mk3
  6. Rewind back to November 1983 and we see a brand new class 58 locomotive 58 020 “Doncaster works” fresh from the plant arrive at the MPD on Ashburton grove, It will be based here adding to the ever increasing fleet of motive power at the MPD.

  8. It’s been a year since IRM released the fantastic 001 class locomotives onto the model railway scene, Here we see 007 on shed with 086,126 and 132 on Tara junction.
  9. Correct Rusk & Lusk-an assisting locomotive (076) was sent from Ballina to Claremorris to haul back the timber train and 086 to platform two in Claremorris, The Ballina branch train was delayed departing by 14 mins until 076 cleared off the branch at Manulla jctn hence the wait at the jctn for the 13:10 service. Normal service was resumed from Claremorris.

  11. Narrow gauge track has been removed from the good loading bank siding in preparation for the laying of the standard gauge track along here, A well which provided water to the tower was also uncovered during to excavation process
  12. With the scaffolding now removed from the signal cabin it shows the classic look of MGWR cabin at Ma’am cross.
  13. Who knows-this recently repainted locomotive might even make an appearance on the day…..

  15. Aer Lingus Boeing 767-300,EI-CAL takes off from runway 24R over Lakeview freight yard on an evening flight to LHR.
  16. Three new covered vans have been added to the freight train on Ashburton grove-two VBB and a VEA blend in with the rest of the train.
  17. A autumn evening scene-The new Dapol junction semaphore signals look right at home on the Tara junction,they read from the branch platform to the up main and branch line.
  18. No DJ, A gentleman was selling his collection of model railways so 079 was an original grey MM which I purchased,and with the addition of my own supply transfers from Railtec, it became 079…I also added the green coupling and various brake pipe detailing.
  19. Saturday morning at the MPD on Tara junction. A chance purchase of 079 has added to the fleet of six grey liveried 071s on the layout. We see 079 on the wheel lathe getting its wheels turned, 166 is seen here lifted clear of its bogies as it undergoes an overhaul. 204 receives attention to its power unit as various locomotives come and go for exams and fuel,oil and water.
  20. Sunday afternoon,056 has arrived back at the perway siding with used scrap rails on the winch wagon
