If you want a particular colour scheme/number name etc for any of the existing rtr models theres plenty of decal packs available from Ssm & railtec, so either do it yourself or use the services of the respray lads. As for the 201's, unless Pm does a ltd run of the new liveries Belmond/new enterprise i can t see me adding any more to my lot although i wouldn t mind another run of the original orange livery. As for the 141/181's i can see a market for a limited run of one in each livery. The a/c class from silverfox doesn t pass muster unless a LOT of work is put into it and as an add to that the same suppliers sulzer is quite poor. Era specific modelling i think goes back to childhood/young adult nostalga. I like the late 1990's to 2008ish, this era has plenty of modelable train rakes 4 wheel cement trains bubbles etc, beet 4 wheel, 4 wheel spoil,beet,ballast among others. Ammonias & ferts ran till the mid part of the era, along with grain, guiness,oil. Plenty of short gm hauled cravens with gsv's where in operation during this era too. I also like the modern post 2008, grey & black+silver 071's, the newer enterprise and intercity 201's, construction trains for the midleton and western corridor, timbers & liners out of waterford. Theres plenty there today but not to the same levels of variety as the past eras.
  3. Judging by the state of the 201's in storage they ll need a near total rebuild if they are to come back into service. Theres also 2 that are totally banjaxed one with fire damage and the other with remnants of its engine the rest was ejected a few years back.
  4. The story goes that in 1963, 463 & 464 were the last two survivors, 464 was in use as a stationary boiler in Inchicore while 463 had the embarrasement of been towed by a c class out of Cork. Colm Creedon & co wrote to Cie about the availabilty of the two with request to save one for preservation which was refused but they offered to sell instead prices quoted were £500 ex works or £700 delivered to Cork Albert Qy. Despite big efforts only £100 could be raised, this was offered as a down payment but cie wanted payment in full immediately, unfortunately this made it impossible to gather the bobs in time to save 464 (463 was cut up during correspondence).

  14. Was reading an article on their delivery from the factory to the docks using uk standard gauge bogies and running as part of goods trains. Theres photos of at least one of these runs which i ve seen & is also in one of Mr Bakers excellent West Cork railway dvds.
  15. Eamonn i followed the destructions in this book to tame my athearns, i ll give you a loan of it if youd like . As for the class 20 its possible to use it for a c class but theres a lot of work involved with the chassis as its too long as is. If it was me who had a spare cl 20 chassis on the go id use it for either a silverfox hunslet kit or if i was feeling adventurous id get the shapeways 1101 kit.

  18. Opened in 1854 & closed in 1963, with its nearby co op, plenty of overbridges & level crossings itd make a nice model. There used to be a passing loop here as well.
  19. The owner of the layout lives quite close too me , i ll see if i can contact him. As for the crossing, i know one of the former inspectors for the waterford area who may give us the answer.
  20. Very true , itd make a cracking good model either way.
  21. Really like it, the livery looks quite stylish but not sure about the warning panel on the cab fronts. In terms of modern liveries the simplicity of the orange & black will never be beaten in my book.
  22. Suppose after two years i might as well finish off my tara wagon rake . At the time i luckily got my mits on 5 mir tara kits & after building them i decided that i wanted more, so i sharpened the pencil and drew out plans of the wagon to aid scratchbuilding a few more. At the time i built one and vowed to build more so here we are NOW is the time to build 2 more. I plan to build two in one week at an hour per night, the first night was spent transferring the measurements onto to plasticard sheet & prepping the buffers and building the bufferbeams. Last night i cut out the main body pieces and built one body plus painted the bufferbeams.
