  1. I think I'd have to look the other way if I was approaching Heuston. The MK3's in Waterford still upset me, they were a seriously good coach. Hopefully some of the loco's may return to the rails. As has been said they are in a reasonably good state on the outside even if some are missing internal parts. Still sad though looking at them. The fact that the 071's are being overhauled speaks volume about their reliability. Rich,
  2. That's an interesting clip of 077 with the Autoballaster wagons. I haven't seen a rake of seven wagons before. Rich,
  3. I'll second that. Nothing like a bit of kit bashing. Rich,
  4. Less then 23 hours since the OP and all that info, take a bow lad's. Welcome to the group Richard that will make an awesome layout with plenty of interest. Rich,
  5. I've been following that thread myself. The DC Kit's models are lovely models when built. Nigel Burkin built a rake years ago and they are smashing. Rich,
  6. I see George 's set painted in green on RMweb and they look nice, Definitely worth a few quid to use them as a scratch building or kit bashing aid. I do think they would benifit hugely from fitting proper trussing and Masokit's MK1 brake gear to the underframe. Rich,
  7. Looking good Tom. Are the bogies clip in like the Cravens. If so get a pair of B5 bogies from Replica Railways they are smashing. I have a few pairs stored away somewhere for future use. Rich,
  8. Agree Fran, I have vague memories of the line myself, well done Patrick. I like the new avatar Fran. Rich,
  9. I often wonder was there a plan to run a railway along the south side of the river from where the Tower Hotel is now, along the river passing Waterpark College, the Rugby club and the ferry for Waterford Castle. Would it have run to Passage and onto Dunmore. I must have a chat with the father in law as he is a local and knows every part of the area. Rich,
  10. Jack O'Neill was a lovely man with an encyclopaedia of railway history all stored in his mind, which is in my opinion the best kind. He was able to tell me about relatives I didn't know I had, who had worked on the railway. I often wonder if the road bridge at Jack Meades pub was ever intended for railway use, wish I'd asked him now. Did you finish the book Tom. Rich,
  11. I agree 100% David it is fantastic. Martyn demystifies the whole process in such a genial way. I love the piece where he occidentally discovers how to get that silvery hue when producing a weathered timber look. Liverbird if you are after a video the right track series of dvd's with Tim Shackleton are worth investing in. Both guys tend to mix their own colour's and don't use off the shelf weathering colour's which gives their work a more personal look. Rich,
  12. Maybe if it the blue was changed to green like the road trucks, it might be a bit more eye catching. Rich,
  13. It's a great read Tom. Wouldn't the Station building in Tramore make a great club house for a model railway society, with lot's of work involved of course. Rich,
  14. Lovely work Kieran, I didn't get a chance to get to Clonmel last month, but you have everything you need after your own trip. I couldn't fault your work on the shed and it already looks very familiar to me. I can't wait to see the main Station buildings. Rich,
  15. Excellent stuff, I am currently reading the book on the Waterford, Tramore railway at the moment. How cool would the line be now if it had never been ripped up. Rich,
  16. That is a huge improvement on what has gone before. All the plaudits are well deserved. I wish you the best of luck with this, and I can see how hard you have worked on the model from inception to where you are now, excellent. Rich,
  17. Eamonn the hand painted models (121, EGV, and Des's kit) you have done look very good to me. If that technique could be mastered it can give flawless results. I saw some Rocar hand painted models years ago and they were amazing. Rich,
  18. Having a lot of the buildings and railway related structures ready to be dropped into position is a great incentive to getting the permanent way down. I still love the cement loading facility. Great work so far, all plaudits are truly deserved. Rich,

    The future?

I'm not surprised Fran. The caption at the end of photo one could worry a lot of people. Not pictured Pin vice, Soldering iron, Dremel. Rich,

    The future?

That is a real backward step. I was hoping to see the bogie motor in units like the Bachmann Turbostars, Voyagers, 150's, the new 158's, and the EMU's in the future allowing full interior's. I remember seeing a guy DCC a Voyager and fit an Express Models lighting unit to it at a show in the UK and it reminds me of that. It needs a lot of work to bring it up to plug and play, and that's what they should be aiming for in today's market. Rich,
  21. I can appreciate the amount of time, effort, and thought that has gone into the layout. It takes me back to my youth and looks just like I remember it. I can't say that I am taken by the way that MacDonagh Station looks today with the shopping Mall next to it. Is the track built to finescale standards. Did you use Templot or other templates. If it isn't finescale did you reuse the original loco wheels on longer axles. I look forward to seeing more and thanks for sharing, it's a wonderful piece of work. Rich,
  22. I'm going to be in Clonmel late next week Kieran. I'll take a swing at the Fethard roundabout and take some pics and dimensions.I have some lying around somewhere, but it won't do any harm to get more. It will be my first trip to the station since they built the new road bridge. I'm going to build the signal cabin in it's condition before they added the portaloo. Signals from Des are already in the bits box. Rich,
  23. I took loads of shots of the building and measurements over the last few years for my own project. The desktop suffered a boot disc failure but I hope to save the photos onto an external hard drive in the next few weeks. I would be glad to send them on to you when it's done. A lot has changed since that photo. The corrugated roof next to the Station building is long gone. That photo is from the late eighties or early nineties. The shed is a fine building, as is the shed that the ITG have in Carrick. Rich,
  24. That looks the part Stephen, it will look even better with the curved board following the curve of the viaduct. Emily even looks like she is posing for the camera. The young fella just said if she is a Bachmann Emily it's eyes should move. The boy knows his stuff. Rich,

    MK3 Scrapping

I agree Stephen, an 071 in Black and Tan (even though they never carried that Livery) and the coaches in the same livery as the original Cravens, mouth watering. Rich,
