  1. I know when it's going back north but not when it's coming south! Just need to get it confirmed first
  2. Hi all, I've been quite quiet here of late, with other matters taking my spare time once out of work. However, I did complete an all-line rover in the UK during July, matching up with a concert I was at. The overall plan was to try and get as much of the stock that is due for replacement in the next year or two (which is an awful lot!) Day 1 was a simple trip from Nottingham to London, and a quick spin out to Ebbsfleet International for a shot of an unrefurbished Class 373 Eurostar Day 2 started and finished in London, with a trip out to Norwich and the surrounding area before the Stadler units replace things Day 3 saw me hit South Wales, again before a major fleet renewal changes things, ending up in Chester for the night Day 4 was a trip from Chester to Belper via Liverpool and York (with a visit to the National Railway Museum and Betty's Bar) Day 5 saw me head south in the afternoon (having spent the morning around an area I grew up in), and positioning for the Sleeper to Inverness that night....... Day 6 saw me potter around Scotland, starting out from Perth instead of Inverness due to major sleeper delays (being nearly 4 hours late into Perth due to a variety of issues). With the early Hainan flight back to Dublin the following morning, this was the end of the rover Album link - https://www.flickr.com/photos/hurricanemk1c/albums/72157709863437391 Regards, Kieran
  3. A great transformation from when I was in there to get the RPSI stock out! Saw the Mk4 rake in there one evening heading home Yes, this is the blue shed, and Heuston SER (as the box is known as) is around P10
  4. The arrow I think purely states which signal the disc (shunt signal) is associated with, rather than any route setting. In the below, the main signal is HN314, with HN314(S) arrow pointing towards the signal / line (in this case, Platform 4)
  5. Ultimately, you can transport 700-odd tonnes (train can be up to 912 tonnes IIRC, but that includes loco and physical wagon weight) in one go. That's 24 lorries (assuming a payload capability of 30 tonnes). Simple economics
  6. It's a nice job (travelled down on the set on the 1805 on Portlaoise). I personally like the contrast, finding the DD interiors very dark

  8. It would be categorised as a near-miss in any investigation as well. One of the many strange sayings, such as Head over Heels in love

  11. As in individual locos? ITG Numberbook has 121-135 as 26271-26285 (GL8) 141-177: 27467-27503 (JL8) 181-192: 31248-31259 (JL18)
  12. Good morning all, A few more from the East Midlands and Staffordshire now, with two days: A selection around Nottingham, with trams on Old Market Square and a 56 and pair of 50's at Nottingham Eastcroft depot Album link - https://www.flickr.com/photos/hurricanemk1c/sets/72157700367812284 ---- I took a spin out to Crewe via the rail replacement services from Derby to Tutbury. A quick out-and-back but useful all the same Album link - https://www.flickr.com/photos/hurricanemk1c/sets/72157700367812354 Regards, Kieran

  14. Good evening all, One of the busiest days in recent transport history was Sunday 26 August, with the Papal Visit and final mass in the Phoenix Park. Although the expected 500,000 did not turn up, a respectable figure was still transported by rail-based transport, with several interesting features, including: -8x29000 to M3 Parkway -10 minute DART and Connolly-Clonsilla service (diverging into a 20 minute service to Maynooth and M3 Parkway) -Use of the Luas Racecourse stop for the first time Click on the photo below to view all the photos from the day, and well done to all involved. The few issues that became apparent were well handled. It is estimated that 10,000 passengers passed through Navan Road Parkway with little delay in 90 minutes following the mass Album link - https://www.flickr.com/photos/hurricanemk1c/albums/72157670694689937/with/43630227324/ Regards, Kieran
  15. Good morning all, After a busy period for me, I'm starting to catch up with photos taken at the beginning of the month. The majority of the shots are from Connolly, with one from Heuston. Highlights include the use of ICR's on the Enterprise, an Inspection Car passing through and a pair on non-CAWS fitted C3K's. Click on the photos below to view them full size Album link - https://www.flickr.com/photos/hurricanemk1c/albums/72157698816431391 Regards, Kieran
  16. Good evening all, On Saturday 7 July 2018 I ventured north to the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland's main engineering and museum base at Whitehead for a look around, since I had never visited before. It wasn't all play as a little bit of work was completed (with thanks to Philip for arranging that chance!), along with a detailed tour around the workshops. Of particular interest was the first of what would be called "modern" railcars - underfloor engines powering the bogie next to it! As always, click on the photo to view it full size with detailed descriptions in many cases Album link - https://www.flickr.com/photos/hurricanemk1c/sets/72157668919464107 Regards, Kieran
  17. Couplings were not the issue. They were missing another piece that was presumed to be with the wagons (basically a vacuum gauge for the rear of the train). Van is of interest to more than one party The Mark 3s went to tender for sale. No-one was interested at the time. Worth more as scrap and spares, plus took up a lot more room than a rake of old wagons
  18. As far as I am aware it is a 300m-ish straight platform. Nothing more or less. Plus if you are measuring from the station building it will be to the north east of the existing facilities
  19. Good evening all, Yesterday (21 June 2018), four oil wagons and a barrier wagon were moved from Heuston Guinness Sidings to Inchicore for further storage. Although initially scheduled for 0915, the transfer actually ran at 1145. Always a fun wait! However it did show how busy Heuston is in the morning - something that even I had not realised despite commuting through the station. As always, click on the photos below to view them full size, or the album here -https://www.flickr.com/photos/hurricanemk1c/albums/72157670365570328 Regards, Kieran
  20. Platform will be on the Down Dublin - Cork line. Apart from that, no change
  21. Good evening all, A selection of photos from this week, mainly taken on lunch breaks. Scenes include: -Dublin's Talbot Bridge and Rosie Hackett Bridge -Dublin Heuston, Tara Street and Connolly stations -Inchicore -Hazelhatch and Celbridge Album link - https://www.flickr.com/photos/hurricanemk1c/albums/72157696366819421 Regards, Kieran
