Dublin Heuston-Limerick Junction (reverse)-Limerick Check (reverse)-Killarney(reverse & break)-Dublin Heuston. Booked stock is a 201 class loco and a mkIV carriage set, this will be the first ever passenger working of a mkIV set over the Limerick line, having previously only worked there on acceptance trials/works visits. 201s are also now comparitively rare visitors to the Limerick and Tralee lines, with 071s traditionally more common on PW and railtour workings. https://www.tailtetours.com/event-details/the-great-southern-railway-centennial-railtour -

With thanks to Iarnród Éireann, Táilte Tours are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Great Southern Railway in November 1924 with a special commemorative railtour, comprising of a day trip from Dublin to Killarney and back, but with a twist. If anyone's looking for an excuse to run magnesite wagons out of region, don't forget some of them ended up stored in places like Enniscorthy and I think Gort in their latter years, and they didn't get there by magic either. In fact while researching the history of my fictional station I discovered some were stored there too in the 90s. Or just, ye know, Rule 1.

Bit of progress installing the inspection pits after work this evening. The messy black is just a base coat over which dirt and grime will be layered so excuse the roughness.

MkIVs are only certified for 071 haulage in an emergency/rescue situation, a 'planned' working such as a railtour isn't permissable unfortunately. (And yes, it has been looked into in the past!) I'm not sure what D.D. situation is officially but there's so few of them that asking to have a set operate tour with one would be moot. As with mkIVs though they can be rescued by 071s.

Very, very much a work in progress between other things. Idea is a small branch terminus, the mainstay of which will be Bo-Bos and short carriage rakes when in Irish mode: Tragreany /Trá na Gréine. (And yes the ballast is to be refined ) When in English mode the nominal name is Sonstrand. The bay platform running at an angle to the 'main' is very much a Tralee-inspired feature. Idea is a runaround passenger terminus with bay, and a few sidings for freight/loco stabling.

Getting type approval for new stock in Northern Ireland comes with its own paperwork hoops to jump through, it would involve considerable expense and manpower to get them certified for what would probably only be occasional use, as @hurricanemk1c points out they couldn't be regularly allocated without compromising the Cork service. (It's been over 20 years since there was an 'anything goes' situation whereby IÉ could stock could run anywhere on NIR and vice versa).

Oh sorry forgot about this. The '8' appears to be a slightly smaller size than the '101'. Lesson, don't worry too much about getting numbers spot on, the real railways don't.

I was researching this for a non-modelling project which will emerge in the next month or two; from what we can tell the broken logo there for trials but not when they actually went into service. A detail I never really twigged until recently. The sound is iconic, any videos?

I'm pretty certain my first rail trip was on a DART from Bray into town... probably about 3 but I distinctly remember thinking they were like 'Daisy' to my toddler eyes.
