  1. May have been that a second 121 came to assist with the train and happened to be facing the other way. Wouldn't have been a problem until they reached the other end when one would have to be turned. Only advantage in being faced opposite ways already would be to speed up the run around I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I'm sure that was the case. When coupled to a a baby GM it would make absolute sense that the 121 would lead one direction and the baby the other. My only observation was that when the baby led, the cab height of the 121 would be higher than the coaching stock in the 'middle' of the formation. Yes, would be a nice photo to see though. Anyway isn't a 121 technically a baby GM too?
  2. Absolutely correct, Ed. They did run singly and mostly cab first except for certain areas like Barrack St. and Connolly-Inchicore. I think Noel was referring to the usual arrangement when they ran in pairs which would also have been cabs outwards. Other than when they were first in early service, it seems like the only place where the 121s would have run bonnet first were in low speed areas, yards etc or where an additional additional observer was available Absolutely smashing shots, Rich, REALLY like those:tumbsup: 134 doesn't look as 'odd' when coupled to the (over)laden double beets like that. In my original post, I was thinking more of coaching stock which seem to approximate the height of a 141/181 cab
  3. Agree.......Yawn!. You'd think they'd team up with one of those guys with wagons going in a spiral or something ....... oh,yes, on to the multi-level scenery
  4. This is an unusual shot. Normally the 121 bonnet would be facing the baby GM. Who knows what happening here? Maybe the 121 has failed and being towed by the baby, who knows.
  5. We were referring to when they were run in consist with another baby GM (or 121) and the pair would have run around
  6. That's what I would have thought too. Maybe they're more aesthetically pleasing with the 121 in lead position and more photos exist in that configuration. Just my perception We discussed this last week sometime. It's likely that there were several 'interim' liveries where logos and tippex (or half tippex, it seems) were added to existing base colors, whereas others locos and rolling stock may have had a full repaint with the same logos etc added. It's likely that probably accounts for the debate as to the exact livery color when any of these are seen in isolation (plus lighting, background etc as additional confounders)
  7. I was planning the same consist maybe even the 121 as the second loco. It seems that they usually ran with the 121 leading with its high cab. I have seen them the other way with the 121 against the train which looks a little odd, the high cab like the windows of an observation coach on American outline rolling stock
  8. Interesting fanfare at relaunch. Long video with lots of crowd (in)action but good to see all the same. Think I spotted Wrenneire in there
  9. Is this at Cork shed? I didn't realize that the metallic/grey single beets came with a bauxite chassis……
  10. Ouch! I have a feeling you'll prevail nonetheless. They look well EDIT: Based in NY! Didn't realize. Might grab one but windows sound troublesome
  11. Have never built one. Does the glazing come with the kit?
  12. Any update on delivery date? Thanks
  13. Try to leave some for the baby...
  14. Tender folds down for a grip on the model:D I thought they had poor brakes that lead to problems if they were in charge of a heavy freight
  15. Finger crossed, you may get a half run of each:cheers:
  16. Surprised you had the time, Richie! Modeling 16 hours a day indeed! Congratulations to you and Ilona & welcome baby Isabelle:Happy1:
  17. You may have to keep wondering. If Wrenneire could't get it out of PM…...
  18. Book Depository turned out to be the best option. I was notified a couple of days ago and purchased mine yesterday for $18 with free shipping?
  19. Amazing to see everything being constructed effectively by hand from fashioning the semi-molten parts to hand assembly of the locomotive. Loved the bit where the worker sticks his head through to check the alignment as the chassis is lowered onto the wheels!
  20. How much track to you want to lay? Do you want something quick and simple to simulate ballast or do you intend to eventually ballast the track? You may want to think about how important noise reduction is to you. Your options consist of preformed open foam underlays that are readily available in models shops, cork, or a closed cell foam like builders foam. Have a look at this and another thread reefed to therein with some decent videos which should provide some food for thought http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/5048-Track-Ballasting-Which-method?highlight=closed+cell+foam
  21. That's what I was dying to express (somewhat ineloquently, obviously) earlier. I think that the lead 121 in Glenderg's photo is in ST livery, the second is also in ST livery but has had the Tippex and IR 'points' logo added only. I the previous photo 129 is probably also in ST livery with white additions, while 121 is likely a full respray in to 'proper' IR orange/tippex/IR points I think I have only seen them on the right hand side of the locos and they may be on the other side of the lead 121. I might be wrong. Will try to look at some photos, and I have no idea what they were for
  22. What derailment? Would you mind posting those if you get a chance, Richie? It was just curiosity to see what was intended to be out there an what really was and why.
  23. Would love to have one. Keep us posted when she's run in. Beautiful model though
  24. You're not wrong, dave182. I was just going to post the same thing myself. 121 is darker/orange and 129 is lighter/yellower in every shot. What would the reason for this be? One a full repaint, the other a partial repaint from previous ST livery. Personally I thought the 121 color to be more prototypical prior to weathering of the livery
