  1. Very interesting G, I've never noticed one with the red buffer beam either. Must dig out my copy:tumbsup: It's very noticeable when the 121 is adjacent to the coaching stock
  2. Sorry, David Always hard when your pride and joy that has been cared for lovingly takes a nose dive. Good luck with restoring her
  3. For anyone whose interested I think it's this The Hasler® Optical Pulse Generator The design of the Hasler® Optical Pulse Generator has been made suitable to resist most extreme mechanical and thermal stress. The technology is based on an optical system that operates in the infrared range. It is possible to have two different frequencies per revolution and up to six electrically isolated sensors. The pulse generator delivers the signals for measuring and recording the distance as well as the speed, for wheel slip and slide sensing, for various control and safety functions, train safety system, etc. Due to its accuracy and reliability, Hasler® Optical Pulse Generators are used for different signalling applications, e.g. ETCS.
  4. Some great and nostalgic shots there, especially the 1992 visit:tumbsup:
  5. The CAD images look very impressive. It's pretty instructive having the various parts picked out in different colors for those not used to looking at the mechanical aspect of the wagons. I think I finally understand some basic things like how the manual and vacuum braking systems actually work, the vacuum pipe diverting round one side of the wagon etc. This probably seems pretty basic and intuitive to modelers more familiar with rolling stock having had opportunity to be closer to the wagons due to career, or longevity as railway enthusiasts etc. Of course it's hard to find a shot of the prototype from this angle. I'm not sure if the discharge doors underneath open symmetrically on both sides or there are doors on only one side only? Still working out where these are hinged etc? Looking forward to these even more now:-bd
  6. Never saw the bulk beets in action. Nice shots of 112 helping out with that. Hopefully we might see this back in 2017? Will there be a factory somewhere?
  7. This seems to be the prototypical Leyland Comet Tipper in service with CIE. Seems like an easy conversion and would look well with a few decals. Would have been interested in a couple of these "A GOOD TIP - USE CIE TRANSPORT"
  8. I have a MM0112 myself. That's a great move to include these minor livery 'discrepancies'. Good excuse to use her on a CIE based layout:trains:
  9. If you can't stop the online order then there is a larger group of HO modelers out there that would be happier with the scale
  10. What's the pipe coming from the axle box on 177? Looks like window was replaced with some thing too?
  11. John, I was wondering how these were progressing/whether they are still available or sold out?
  12. Some smashing shots there, Rich. Learned a lot from this thread. I have so much more of an appreciation for 121s since it started. Really looking forward to these babies coming out:dancing:
  13. John, are any of these now available or already sold out?
  14. Very nice, Jason. Especially love the ESB vans, especially the clapped out one
  15. Lovely shots there, Rich:tumbsup: Thanks for that and for the light and heavily weathered versions. I presume the numbers were decals on the locos. THe "1" on "177" seems to have peeled leaving just a shadow of its former self Answer:
  16. Two weeks? I can;t edit any posts more than 23 hours old as a matter of routine Needs fuel, Ritchie. I'll send over some banana skins:banana::banana: … although you've got the depleted uranium packets for emergency use:D
  17. Eh,……. Harry, that's not tea
  18. Did multiple working require the presence of a physical electrical/electronic connection between the two locomotives? I'm hazarding a guess that it may be the socket inboard of the light cluster (on 144) in this photo?? It is not present on grey or B'n'T 121s but seen in general terms in IR & IE liveried 121s. Is there an extensible connector or a connecting lead kept somewhere on each loco?
  19. Yes, that's what I was trying to say. possibly no way of turning it at the point of origin, but hopefully at the destination. Lots of modeling possibilities
  20. Any video of 800 running, Harry?
  21. May have been that a second 121 came to assist with the train and happened to be facing the other way. Wouldn't have been a problem until they reached the other end when one would have to be turned. Only advantage in being faced opposite ways already would be to speed up the run around I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I'm sure that was the case. When coupled to a a baby GM it would make absolute sense that the 121 would lead one direction and the baby the other. My only observation was that when the baby led, the cab height of the 121 would be higher than the coaching stock in the 'middle' of the formation. Yes, would be a nice photo to see though. Anyway isn't a 121 technically a baby GM too?
  22. Absolutely correct, Ed. They did run singly and mostly cab first except for certain areas like Barrack St. and Connolly-Inchicore. I think Noel was referring to the usual arrangement when they ran in pairs which would also have been cabs outwards. Other than when they were first in early service, it seems like the only place where the 121s would have run bonnet first were in low speed areas, yards etc or where an additional additional observer was available Absolutely smashing shots, Rich, REALLY like those:tumbsup: 134 doesn't look as 'odd' when coupled to the (over)laden double beets like that. In my original post, I was thinking more of coaching stock which seem to approximate the height of a 141/181 cab
  23. Agree.......Yawn!. You'd think they'd team up with one of those guys with wagons going in a spiral or something ....... oh,yes, on to the multi-level scenery
  24. This is an unusual shot. Normally the 121 bonnet would be facing the baby GM. Who knows what happening here? Maybe the 121 has failed and being towed by the baby, who knows.
  25. We were referring to when they were run in consist with another baby GM (or 121) and the pair would have run around
