  1. I was wondering the same thing, Seamus. Presumably it's a spare from somewhere. Beginning to look at little like 112. Are some of the 071s in storage?
  2. Does anyone have old photos of the Viaduct in the 1950s or even 1960s? The line closed in 1961 before I was born, so I have little or no recollection of the 'real thing'. The upper decking, siderails and some of the lower structure were stripped away decades later to make it safe and slow up abseilers and BASE jumpers (I don't think its high enough). Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance for taking the time to find/upload any photos if anyone has any.
  3. Good work, Noel. Thanks for the photos. I'm thinking of trying to equip a Bachmann J18 with a decoder when I acquire one. As far as I know the chassis is isolated from the motor. Hope I'm right about this or I'll be referring to your photos when I open her up. Good solution to your space problem. I was also wondering if I'll have room.
  4. Hi Noel I have yet to do this so I'm going to be watching your thread carefully I had no idea what back EMF was either so I literally looked it up yesterday. Apparently it makes a huge difference by monitoring the output from the motor and constantly changing the signal to the loco to keep it running smoothly instead of stops and starts particularly at low speed and even with slightly dirty track. Of course that's no excuse for not cleaning your track but it seems that back EMF is hugely advantageous with older motors and three pole motors which would not be as smooth as five pole or double flywheels.
  5. Probably best the railtour does not pass that section then we don't want any tourist robbed. "You don't understand, Father, she was robbed... they stole her!
  6. Thanks, Seamus
  7. Oh, well done, dude! It's a very ionconspicuous cab isn't it?
  8. They've lifted the track between Wexford and Waterford?
  9. With any luck, by the time you have sorted out the earlier periods, you may have some modern RTR rolling stock. Very interesting project. Good luck. Keep the photos coming when you can!
  10. I am trying to acquire some of these in NIR livery but I think what is out there from two or three different vendors is not truly prototypical, just a respray of the nearest coach available maybe with the incorrect number of windows for the genny for instance. I could live with some minor detail disparities like roof vent design. I think I may end up trying to do this myself a long time in the future using this thread as a reference. So the DVT must have some sort of cab on one end which is hidden from view on the photos on page one of this thread when it is run in the rake and not in push-pull?
  11. I agree with Fran and Noel. There will need to be a little investment here whether RPSI will want to do that or not. This is a make or break railtour If you want to capture that market then you need to dress it up. The small and cosmetic things make all the difference. Yes the coaches should have the same livery and an investment in destination boards for the coaches plus all that has been stated already. Has this been advertised somewhere? The dollar has risen marginally against the Euro but unless Kim & Kanye want to jet in (I'm thinking it's not Ms Kardashian's thing) then few want to pay first class airfare from the US at this short notice. How much does it cost?
  12. Hi Glenderg, Would love to see your NIR rake if you get a chance to post some pics!
  13. Now, that several of you have built the 800, may I ask if any of you have run it successfully on DCC and what problems were encountered if any?
  14. So the Gennys can be resprayed from Brake 1st coaches NIR second corridors from BR Mk2 1st Corridors keeping the same interior if I'm modeling before the all open conversions in 1988. I presume the single 902 first is from a BR Mk2 1st whose body would be externally identical to the converted NIR 2nd corridors with 7 windows. There were also other NIR second opens that would have been derived from BR 2nd opens, I presume, which would have 8 windows per side. Was the griddle car derived from BR buffet car?
  15. I can't see any footage of trains:trains:, just sound, and the NIR logo wandering around like a giant swastika:mad:
  16. Did these ever materialize? Not on Marks Models website as far as I can see......
  17. No bargains in 7 months? The retailers have succumbed to the recession.... Or retired on the proceeds from our purchases:facepalm:
  18. This sold pretty cheaply for a 111. Hope one of you got a deal!
  19. Very interesting minister. I posted this in case it was of interest to any of the collectors on the site. I do not have any proficiency in determining whether this is genuine. I will leave that to you guys:D
  20. Any update on the Shale wagons?
  21. So you want to reproduce 111 but in the more modern livery, correct? You're also going to need a new nameplate for her
  22. Thanks, but all sold out on engine shed, station and signal box:(
  23. Richie, Sorry, Just saw this thread. Just starting to work my round the rest of the site What era does the model cover? I might be interested in an RTR Kevin
  24. For your next 1:1 scale locomotives…. http://www.ebay.ie/itm/151406732085?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
