  1. Keep the pictures coming as you go. I need to convert a Bachmann NCC J18 (that I haven't exactly acquired yet) to DCC. Reassured that the Bachmanns do a little better but watching with interest what I'm going to have to do with the chassis!
  2. They're finally up but without photos so I'm glad Seamus put these up! There's just single running number each for the B&T and it's brake I guess?
  3. If anyone from the Rebel County has any shots of this in the past, i would be grateful if you could also get in touch. Thanks in advance.
  4. Are these on their website yet? I didn't see them.......
  5. Noel, didn't you get some good results when you converted older locos to DCC. Maybe older 201s would still be acceptable compared to their newer siblings rather than scrapping them if you already own them. If you're going to purchase, then going with the MMs would probably be far superior
  6. Hi Noel, Your terminus has very complex trackwork with lots of crossovers and double slips etc. if I remember correctly. You may want to post a shot of this for Dhu Varren and consider what the solution is for the whole layout, just in case (say) rewheeling everything solves your problem here only for it to recur when you hit the terminus conversion. Just a thought
  7. Are the Bachmann green coaches in the Irish Railway set, pack and individually prototypical of that period? I know these Marks Models are not but if neither are strictly correct, could we mix and match the greens? Or are the liveries too different? Any thoughts?
  8. Yes, I think it is but it depends on who wants one and how soon. This is not the worst I've seen and they're becoming more scarce, I think. If it's mint it not that bad unless you're a collector ,I guess. Technically all the mint locos sold on here are secondhand too...
  9. It does't say but I think you may be right 42-050 is N and 44-050 is OO, I think. Sorry. THere are others on there
  10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Graham-Farish-4-Road-Engine-Shed-New-and-Boxed-/161429053207?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item2595ebdf17 No bidders on this at present......... Just call the shops, they'll often ship it even if they say they won't on their site

  12. I dont do the Facebook thing. Thanks for these great shots, Steve!
  13. Good plan as long as they are traveling one way, I guess:trains:

  15. I was wondering the same thing, Seamus. Presumably it's a spare from somewhere. Beginning to look at little like 112. Are some of the 071s in storage?
  16. Does anyone have old photos of the Viaduct in the 1950s or even 1960s? The line closed in 1961 before I was born, so I have little or no recollection of the 'real thing'. The upper decking, siderails and some of the lower structure were stripped away decades later to make it safe and slow up abseilers and BASE jumpers (I don't think its high enough). Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance for taking the time to find/upload any photos if anyone has any.
  17. Good work, Noel. Thanks for the photos. I'm thinking of trying to equip a Bachmann J18 with a decoder when I acquire one. As far as I know the chassis is isolated from the motor. Hope I'm right about this or I'll be referring to your photos when I open her up. Good solution to your space problem. I was also wondering if I'll have room.
  18. Hi Noel I have yet to do this so I'm going to be watching your thread carefully I had no idea what back EMF was either so I literally looked it up yesterday. Apparently it makes a huge difference by monitoring the output from the motor and constantly changing the signal to the loco to keep it running smoothly instead of stops and starts particularly at low speed and even with slightly dirty track. Of course that's no excuse for not cleaning your track but it seems that back EMF is hugely advantageous with older motors and three pole motors which would not be as smooth as five pole or double flywheels.
  19. Probably best the railtour does not pass that section then we don't want any tourist robbed. "You don't understand, Father, she was robbed... they stole her!
  20. Oh, well done, dude! It's a very ionconspicuous cab isn't it?
  21. They've lifted the track between Wexford and Waterford?
  22. With any luck, by the time you have sorted out the earlier periods, you may have some modern RTR rolling stock. Very interesting project. Good luck. Keep the photos coming when you can!
  23. I am trying to acquire some of these in NIR livery but I think what is out there from two or three different vendors is not truly prototypical, just a respray of the nearest coach available maybe with the incorrect number of windows for the genny for instance. I could live with some minor detail disparities like roof vent design. I think I may end up trying to do this myself a long time in the future using this thread as a reference. So the DVT must have some sort of cab on one end which is hidden from view on the photos on page one of this thread when it is run in the rake and not in push-pull?
