You need to remember that the vast majority of the people who attend just want to watch trains go by......they dont care if layouts are accurate or not in any way. You could nail 2 lines of track to a 8 x 4 sheet and exhibit it and people would be amused. Its a different market to the big shows in England/Scotland like Warley,Ally Pally,BRM Live and Modelrail Scotland. A 21mm layout, converted stock and hand made track would sail over the heads of the vast majority of people who attend shows here. The fact that the Lego layout once again won the public vote displays this, although when I was part of the crew that brought Loughrea to the NEC for the Warley show it was interesting that a lot of people did notice it was 21mm rather than 16.5mm......... A model railway enthusiast attendance rather than general public...

You need the hall for 4 days, also its on the Southside, MRSI being a Northside based club. Dont need confusion with the SDMRC if both shows were to be held on the Southside

Thought it was a Cortina engine, the driver sits to one side in the middle of the car, the front row seats being for engineers,managers, inspectors etc. There was also a 'floor window' for inspecting the track, at least on some of them

Most large venues (RDS, 3/O2 Arena, Conference Centre) are too expensive, the Mansion House is too small along with no parking and hotels wont take a 3 day booking for a hall on the bank holiday weekend. St Pauls costs the MRSI relatively little and is easily accessible with plenty of parking. Unlike the UK there are not plenty of leisure centres/big church halls about.....

Paid this a quick visit today, plenty to entertain and some decent prices from the trade too

Id agree with DC kits/Silverfox being very hit and miss. Never forget seeing the Silverfox model of the prototype diesel locos Lion and Falcon, you could just see the Lima Class 47's in the mouldings......

Silverfox will be a made up version of the DC kits one

No - but unless the model is 2 inches from your face you wouldnt notice - only 2 liveries had the original lights, the leds have had 5....

These are the production models - The font of the numbers is wrong too and the worksplates are missing, ie not printed. Also the silencer is the same colour as the body. 208 only gained its nameplates after a repaint into Enterprise livery, 209 has never had its ones fitted. I really really want to like these models as they come but they will need a bit of fettling to please me - but at the same time its good to make a good thing better.... The shape is spot on, the mechanism, detail etc is great, but the decoration lets them down

Would the main Dublin-Cork road have been CWR by 1980? I know it was being rolled out around this time. Consider Marcway points too, since its going to be a running layout and you dont want the trackplan/scenery etc ruined by poor running.... Will make for an interesting era too, just around the time of the Buttevant disaster which hastened the withdrawal of wooden bodied stock, not to mention plenty of freight and loco variety
