  1. You don't have to be Indian to be blasé about railway tracks - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-34065369 - that's on a Southern Region track, where the third rail was (luckily for him) isolated for some work going on - normally it would be 750 volts and would kill you now.
  2. Is that true? The inside rail is connected to the outside rail, and vice versa. I don't see it working.
  3. In the previous Bombay Railway documentary, the driver they featured was asked how many fatalities had occurred whilst he was driving - he wasn't sure, but felt that it was probably more than seventy.
  4. I note that we have Gardaí called to deal with disruptive passengers for the second time in two days.
  5. I worked for a UK company that merged with a French company - I found the French to be much less susceptible to the consultancy culture.
  6. I also worked in the private sector, and the amount of con-artists around, even twenty years ago, was startling. I am now having flashbacks....
  7. My informant states that "serious works" are to commence shortly.
  8. Or is re-opened with cruise ships in mind and chartered excursion trains...?
  9. They look well enough to me - don't let the weedkiller leak onto them...
  10. Another "We Fit" lorry didn't - just up the road from the last one... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-34026667
  11. At the time, it will have probably seemed quite plausible - then, after the delay of the war, Alcock & Brown, Lindberg, bigger and faster liners, and the general economic state will have caused people to think again. And the fact that it would be located in a different state from a lot of its market...... Trans-Atlantic flights to Knock may be its modern legacy?
  12. This starts on BBC2 next Monday - for those that have access - and those can stomach Dan Snow... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02xxsb5
  13. Mostly here - http://ionaddeirbhile.ie/deirbhiles-blog/blacksod-bay-railway-terminus - and Google searches - it looks like WW1 put paid to it initially and, of course, it wasn't resurrected after the war, for many reasons.
  14. Found it - http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/1416-New-Recruit!!?p=21672#post21672 .
  15. Somebody was talking about it once - I can't find it now, though - maybe it was on the old site...?
  16. The proposed terminus building.
  17. http://www.gandr-wrenn.co.uk/history.htm
  18. Trains direct from Kildare to Connolly and Grand Canal Dock from late next year.
  19. This might be of some interest to those following this thread. http://shropshire.gov.uk/news/2015/08/a-world-of-lego-comes-to-shrewsbury-museum-art-gallery-on-14-september/
  20. You may need to be 'on' Facebook to see this - - but, there's some interesting pictures.
  21. You can see piles of both pink and grey here -
  22. It's just different stone, it's pink from new - it actually gets less 'bright' as it ages/weathers. I think the pink stuff may be granite and the grey is limestone.
