0 Kirley Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 .thanks kirley for the info. the 75 tonner looks so similar to our 35, where would the difference be...the engine or the rigging? Looking at a picture of the 30 ton it appears to be both a shorter jib and a smaller engine housing plus the loss of a pony truck as you modelled it. Quote

0 Kirley Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 Here’s a challenge for any Modeller: Dr. Geoff Bunza demonstrates the HO scale Athearn steam railroad crane model he brought to life using a DCC sound decoder, micro motors and relays. Here’s the video – it’s very good if you can get it to play for you. I see this month’s Model Rail has an article on updating a Hornby Breakdown Train Quote

0 tonybonneyba Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I think this is the newer version in yellow (I got it for Christmas, I think in 2009-2010) , I may modify it to the Irish Rail version sometime next week. Quote
0 heirflick Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 hi tony - you stirred up some great memories of that crane! best of luck with the project and post pics as you go:) Quote
0 tonybonneyba Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Aww, thanks. I'm sure I will post pics as I go. Quote

0 jhb171achill Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Comments by Blaine & Waffles are correct. The yellow ones were ex-BR. I think there were two, and they were intended to replace the old MGWR and GSWR ones. I think the one plinthed at Mallow is an ex-BR one but I could be wrong - it might be the GSWR one. As stated, the NCC one is on the DCDR and the GNR one is at Whitehead. The BR ones were quite different in detail from any if the Irish ones. For a start, they were much newer! Quote
0 minister_for_hardship Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 The one at Mallow is dated 1920 and looks very small compared to the BR monsters. Quote
0 heirflick Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 The one at Mallow is dated 1920 and looks very small compared to the BR monsters. tiny is the word.... Quote
0 jhb171achill Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Yes, looks like a GSWR one. They had one in Inchicore, and dating from W & L days had one in Limerick. I stand to be corrected, but that's probably the Limerick GSWR one, it's W & L predecessor having been long gone (in 1920, maybe?). Quote
0 heirflick Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 John, is there a missing truck here to support the jib? Quote
0 Garfield Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Yes, it's definitely the GSWR one. Initially preserved by the GSRPS, if I'm not mistaken... Quote
0 jhb171achill Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 There is indeed a missing match truck. To see what these looked like, the GNR one still at whitehead with the GNR crane, is very much typical of the species. Quote
