I think Samskip bought Geest, but also Seawheel(who's boxes have been discussed at length on her, Limerick to Waterford baby food) but Samkip are around a long time, they started with the Iceland/Nordics services and grew from there..

You would know better than me Arran, but are the Tesco units not 8'9" rather than 8'6, I remember reading that they were a lower height so they could be routed via the Settle and Carlisle when the WCML is closed..

The curtain siders were 8ft6" so they could go anywhere like Up to Inverness and Aberdeen , Tesco also have that height in ribbed containers, the 8ft9" were Malcolm 45ft for the Aberdeen run .

I will hunt out some pics when im home

Don't think Samskip are ever seen here on the liners, or if they were, l never saw them?

Maybe @MOGUL might confirm?

Simple answer is no, the Samskip units on the XPO liner are 45ft Dry Boxes or 45ft Reefers, not curtain siders like the model..

DFDS did run curtain siders to/from Ballina one of the summers they had the liner running, think it was 2017(videos on youtube should show these).. This was for export loads of recycled silage wrap.. So the container type has moved on liners but not in Samskip livery.

Anyone who doesn't like a yarn/ramble can tune out now!

I car share with a colleague(who formerly worked for XPO, but that's another story) who's main job is to move ~300 tonnes a week of coils from Europe to Waterford via Dublin and Waterford ports, about 50% of this is in Samskip curtainsiders like the oxford model.. He has a constant battle to get stock in, and when the weather gets bad in the winter, I’d swear his stress levels triple!

Was 2014, you can see the curtains flapping on the second train in this video. Also of note is the 45ft reefer in a CPW on this train…  The Norfolk line units on the first train also look like curtainside units, but watching on a phone so can’t be sure..

Picked up a couple of these packs today. Really nice models. These two, I really like.

They have a light dusting applied which definitely tones them down. I'll eventually add a little more weathering when I get a chance. I think some rust etc will look really well on these.

It's hard to put a prototypical liner together as not all containers are available, there will always be ones you will never get.

And new containers will be added to trains over the years.

I try to buy containers I want as they become available.

I've started buying 45's even though there are no wagons to put them on, YET. :praying:

Don't go too crazy buying 45's just yet, as you never know what 45's are around the corner...

HI All

at some point i will probably take the plunge but i have been waiting to see if 45ft reefers become more prevalent on the rails in the UK and Ireland , and they seem to be even in Ireland

What are the Dream Box and Power Box containers? Are they owned by a bigger company and branded that way for a reason? Do / did they run in Ireland?

They are Bachmann 13.6m units from the 2000s, both companies were leasors I think.. I don't think they ever ran in Ireland, the only flow I know of was some being used for Supermarket traffic(Safeway?) in the UK, i'm going to say from Deanside Transit to Warrington Dallam.. But @Arranwould be better informed on the UK than me!

HI All

They were just leasing companies and who knows what happened to them .

Not sure about the Safeway traffic but never say never, the only Safeway branded were the reefers they used, it was colourful while it lasted .

I picked up the 40' Hanjin 8'6 and the 20' DAL 8'6 dry boxes in Marks the other day. I mainly wanted the Hanjin but I'm wondering does anyone know for sure if such a DAL container ever ran in Ireland?

Credit to the unknown photographer.

I would say unlikely I'm afraid.. DAL were east Africa specialists(bought out by Hapag in 2020).. The only time I have seen DAL equipment in Ireland, was a small pile in CTS in Dublin Port.. Not sure if they ever moved from there even!
