Georgeconna Posted December 16, 2025 Author Posted December 16, 2025 Finally got the Guest house wired and roofed and looks nice and finishes the setting. This was laser cut card and wood from Igra models. Excellent kit and quality. 7 3
Mol_PMB Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 That's looking superb. The guest house is an attractive building and a nice kit by the look of it. The night scenes are very atmospheric - I'm not currently planning night-time and lighting on my layout but perhaps I should make provision for it.. 2 1

Mol_PMB Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 What a super picture! Does your train have a bar car, or have they paused to take refreshment in the hotel? All the best for 2026! 1

Mayner Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Visited the Mariazellerbahn on a day trip from Krems in 2004, while visiting Austria while en-route (very indirect) from Ireland to New Zealand, via Austria, the UK and the USA. We only had time to ride the lower section of the line to Grenrendorf to check out the steam loco in its shed, the shed staff were friendly but we struggled to understand each others English/German but had a good time. I guess its unlikely at this stage whether we will get to travel the length of the line to Marizaell. Bottom section of the Mariazellerbahn reminded me of the Welshpool and LLanfair a wlesh 2'6" gauge line built with minimal earthworks, following the contours with sharp curves. I think we rode to Grenrendorf behind one of the original C-C electrics and returned to St Polten in a diesel railcar We travelled by Ryanair to Graz and rode over the Semmeringbahn to Vienna. At the time the majority of Obb services were loco hauled with recently introduced electric locos hauling older coaches sometimes working push-pull with a 4w covered van attached at the rear for bicycles! Graz was interesting a kind of Austrian Clones a junction between secondary lines complete with a roundhouse, though the station building was a modern structure with raised car park above a goods/marshalling (fiddle yard?) Shunting was scary with loose/gravity shunting of freights arriving from a harbour branch (Danube)/local industries. Shunters (human) used to place a "sprag/s" on the rail infront of in-coming wagons and casually enter the 4' to stand between the buffers of a stationary wagon to couple up, wheels of arriving wagon would skid when it hit the sprag and nosiily buffer up to the stationary wwagon/rest of the train, shunter would then couple up (screw link) attach brake hoses and then get ready for the next arrival, no room for errors. Commuter train to & from Vienna were made up of loco hauled modern double decked push-pull sets, with diesel railcars and occasional loco hauled sets complete with 4w van. 1
Georgeconna Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 Hi Folks, A quiet of late, Cold in the shed, Car cost over a grand to fix so funds are low so just doing some small details around the layout. On the plus side I got news from the Austrian supplier that sold me a lovely ROCO steam set with sound about the busted sound decoder. The sound decoder packed in after 2 weeks of intermittent use and was posted back to the Shop. I received this email below yesterday to say the a replacement decoder was coming back to me but the lad funded it out of his own pocket and ROCO had zero interest in helping For me these are Premium models and perhaps am I a bit naïve to expect a premium service when things go wrong but I feel really sorry for the Supplier in Graz as the decoders are not cheap. Really disappointed to hear that ROCO had no interest in coming up with a solution, I expected more from these Continental Companies really but then again Heller (plastic kit company) also ignored a plea for missing parts for about 5 months (an Email to the MD managed to get someone attention and then the parts came through) Then you look at Accurascale / IRM and the service you get there. Miles apart. 4 1 1
Georgeconna Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 (edited) Back doing some small detailing work and some play. Bridge railing in place, Flower bed, Climbing rose on the hotel, Bus shelter lit. Extra trees added. Waterfalls added and the river is being filled! time too. Little vid. VID_20260303_234753.mp4 VID_20260303_235001.mp4 VID_20260303_234536.mp4 Edited March 4 by Georgeconna 5 1 2
Georgeconna Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 Just in the door today was a Alpine backdrop. Printed on PVC, guy does paper ones too and can be done to any dims. Ordered through ETSY. just need to mount it to the back board which is detachable. 8
Georgeconna Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 (edited) Back from the show, lovely reception from the public. Lots of questions asked, some kids got to have a drive as well. Made their day. No major bugs, just one cobalt issue where the fulcrum point moved downwards causing the blades not to move hard to decipher due to the ambient noise. Last train tonight and fingers crossed Wexford will be the next outing. See you then. Edited March 23 by Georgeconna 12 1
Georgeconna Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 (edited) Delivery today from Germany with some bits and bobs. Finally completed the platform lights so nicely balanced. Also set up a simple consist with the two Eloks using the close coupling bar. Looks great. Slight mismatch in speed a one is sound and the delay leaving off the brake causing the delay. Up to speed tis fine. VID_20260323_165040.mp4 VID_20260323_233408.mp4 VID_20260323_232923.mp4 Edited March 24 by Georgeconna 7

Georgeconna Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 (edited) Hi Tony, I have gone through various DCC controllers, Hornby select years ago for starts, Then Bachmann Dynamis which I really liked but did not have the amount of functions needed for modern decoders, Then an NCE powercab which I sold off pretty quickly and finally settled and very happy with the Z21 (white). Pretty easy to use. Have a hand set but mostly use the phone / Tablet and dead easy to program really Edited March 24 by Georgeconna 1 1 1
Georgeconna Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 (edited) Lovely to see simple layouts like these take a gong away. You dont need massive boards, Tons of stock, Just tons of delight...(2) Facebook I need to work on some pelmet for overhead lighting next I reckon. https://youtu.be/KtRzCoTg8KY?si=uhI_-t0cqfMQO9Yy Edited March 24 by Georgeconna 7 1

Georgeconna Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 Been working on this personal project for a while. As I have a lot of irish outline and jealous of you boys and your irish layouts I decided to re gauge a MM 121 so I too can have some fun. Wheels and gears were sourced from Wonkywheelset.de in Germany and were a simple pop in. The frames hide most of the change really so the gauge difference is not really noticeable. Runs quite well until it hits the tunnel mouth. 5
Mol_PMB Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Nice! Put some cement bubbles on the transporters for it to haul? 1

Georgeconna Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 Getting the station running in boards in situ. Bit of weathering of the locos and stock. These were mostly kept clean really. VID_20260414_182504.mp4 VID_20260414_180549.mp4 7 1

Apple video uploads can take an age to become visible, presumably as the files have to be converted to a more common format. Possibly something similar with the images? We see a temporary preview, but behind the scenes, conversion fails so there’s nothing left?
