North Star kit - so it will be very high quality. Seems complete too, so there is well over £200 worth of motor/wheels/gears there. Brand new, you'd be l looking at £600.

Built two of Adrian Rowland's Sligo Leitrim Small Tanks - the instructions are very good and they went together really well.

I took over the Northstar range of Irish kits, which includes the 7mm PP.  For those that might be interested.

Des:

Out of interest, would it be possible to reduce the existing 7mm scale artwork down to 4mm scale?

I am surprised that no one has hit the "Buy it Now" button at that price (and no, I don't need yet another project in the wrong scale....)

Someone did hit the BIN about an hour ago (wasn't me).

Hopefully it was someone from here who can give it a good home.

There again, if they were just after the Cannon motor/gearbox (way more than £100 new) and the wheels then the remains may be listed again very soon.

Thanks Rob - I hadn’t noted BIN price till you said! I pressed the trigger as I’ve always wanted a PP since seeing Fred Graham’s clockwork one c1979. It will find a home on my Enniskillen diorama with suitable no - prob 74. Plan is to finish it with all included parts - all my other gearboxes are accounted for, so plan is to use the Canon. I’ve only just finished a GN loco, too…IMG_2807.thumb.jpeg.e703bfe920b81c0e98e23560930fc929.jpeg

Snap Galteemore! I had 2 of the North Star PP's probably over 20 years ago plus a JT which was a white metal kit .They are standing in front of a diorama of Enniskillen shed. All reluctantly disposed of many years ago.

7mm GNRI PP & JT

I don't have the artwork readily available, so would be working with the etches.  The bigger task is resizing all the brass and whitemetal castings.  Unfortunately It's too big a task to take on currently

That will keep you busy for a couple of hours.

If it had been a Sligo tank I would of nabbed it myself despite it being the wrong scale.

Enjoy.

Yes, the North Star Sligo tank is very nice - I was gifted a first edition one a few years ago to build….

I still think that if a 4mm scale Sligo tank was ever made, it would go down a storm. For my sins, I have a 4mm LSWR Adams Radia tank in bits that one day will get finished. The only iffy point is the wheelbase. Since the wheels are so close together, I might have to add 0.5mm to get them all to fit under the converted body shell.

I'm glad I could help. I'm sorry about the wallet taking a knock. But I do wonder just how many kits like this stay in the cupboard stash for years and never get made.

I'd certainly consider putting my name down for a kit to build Lough Erne, one of the 1949 pair.

Kirley on RM Web has built one, using etches drawn up by Tony Ragg. So presumably etches may be available for other parties…..pic courtesy Kirley on RMWEB

Are the above on this list or does someone know them that they could ask?

Colin Rainsbury

A polite question to Kirley on RM Web might be appropriate. Tony Ragg posts there only occasionally but a PM might reach him.

If he replies, please could you let him know there's a second set of etches that will find a ready buyer here? I'm not on RMWeb.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Horsetan

I have said that there may be up to half a dozen people who might be interested, I am thinking that he may not want to do them unless he can cover the cost of the etching process. it would be a lot cheaper to say have half a dozen done that just a one-off

I  have made contact with Kirley who is in contact with Tony Ragg, they are going to have a chat about this over the weekend so you all have time to think about whether obtaining the etches now is something you guys want.

If it does go ahead I don't expect them to be repeated. Finding the casting and other bits may take a while, but I am sure there are enough folk in this group to tell us where such items can be purchased

LMS buffers will do nicely; that’s what all my Sligo engines have. As for boiler fittings, the chimney and dome are not especially outlandish and ‘close enough’ should be easily obtainable in the 4mm world. A 3d guru could probably knock up a chimney and dome fairly easily for you in any case.
