Colin R Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Hi anyone want one of these in 7 mm scale? I am not the seller by the way https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235808519157?_skw=great+central+model+railway+kits&itmmeta=01JBD8EKYNG2EKC1EJTYK1BV7P&hash=item36e74873f5:g:7M4AAOSwMqxnIUBr&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAABAHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKmAF4634%2F1selY6xelrH9uczjbcz5HrV2TKRwUFRRQaQDh8jaJV24MNymWmfMPD8oEl26a8JdyLF4AE%2FTQhziEmLTWpo3dCpCT6PR0Ea9q0FYHWQzCLBfc3w8Uf6y9WpRjbg0qm%2FdrTP5UZtu3yaTQduoAbaBPdmKpawJIyJaNx%2FJTj%2FBzD5wxiCKxPfOwsQOfjn8tf6B4RLZY8njog0LhNVAgqFpLyCSLNT2bf4bM75cLSmm%2BNWoBvf4Kw%2BISEP1b7JTfyVQ%2F9uRl0WJ%2BQQZVr%2FJ2viD31kLkYeoiNemDhJnU1pc1iDIGZpFKlwr5RJzg%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8K_uqjbZA 2 2 Quote
NorthWallDocker Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Thank you, Colin. I sent a query just now about posting to the U.S. Quote
David Holman Posted October 30 Posted October 30 North Star kit - so it will be very high quality. Seems complete too, so there is well over £200 worth of motor/wheels/gears there. Brand new, you'd be l looking at £600. Built two of Adrian Rowland's Sligo Leitrim Small Tanks - the instructions are very good and they went together really well. 1 1 Quote
Galteemore Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Also looks like someone has put in the hard yards of chassis and superstructure assembly. So on the face of it it’s only adding details and paint to complete …. 1 Quote
Weshty Posted October 30 Posted October 30 I took over the Northstar range of Irish kits, which includes the 7mm PP. For those that might be interested. 2 Quote

Rob R Posted October 30 Posted October 30 I am surprised that no one has hit the "Buy it Now" button at that price (and no, I don't need yet another project in the wrong scale....) 1 Quote
Rob R Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Someone did hit the BIN about an hour ago (wasn't me). Hopefully it was someone from here who can give it a good home. There again, if they were just after the Cannon motor/gearbox (way more than £100 new) and the wheels then the remains may be listed again very soon. 1 Quote
Galteemore Posted October 30 Posted October 30 (edited) Thanks Rob - I hadn’t noted BIN price till you said! I pressed the trigger as I’ve always wanted a PP since seeing Fred Graham’s clockwork one c1979. It will find a home on my Enniskillen diorama with suitable no - prob 74. Plan is to finish it with all included parts - all my other gearboxes are accounted for, so plan is to use the Canon. I’ve only just finished a GN loco, too… Edited October 30 by Galteemore 5 2 2 Quote
Rob R Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Well done. A good home where it will be appreciated. 1 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Snap Galteemore! I had 2 of the North Star PP's probably over 20 years ago plus a JT which was a white metal kit .They are standing in front of a diorama of Enniskillen shed. All reluctantly disposed of many years ago. 5 3 Quote

I don't have the artwork readily available, so would be working with the etches. The bigger task is resizing all the brass and whitemetal castings. Unfortunately It's too big a task to take on currently 1 2 Quote
leslie10646 Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Good luck with your PP, David. I only have two of them and they proved better runners than my S Class until Alan Edgar did his magic on them. 1 Quote
Galteemore Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Well look what landed thanks to @Rob R and @Colin RLots of cleaning up and fettling ahead. But all the bits are here…..I think..,, 9 Quote
Rob R Posted November 4 Posted November 4 That will keep you busy for a couple of hours. If it had been a Sligo tank I would of nabbed it myself despite it being the wrong scale. Enjoy. 1 Quote

Yes, the North Star Sligo tank is very nice - I was gifted a first edition one a few years ago to build…. 9 Quote

Colin R Posted November 5 Author Posted November 5 I still think that if a 4mm scale Sligo tank was ever made, it would go down a storm. For my sins, I have a 4mm LSWR Adams Radia tank in bits that one day will get finished. The only iffy point is the wheelbase. Since the wheels are so close together, I might have to add 0.5mm to get them all to fit under the converted body shell. I'm glad I could help. I'm sorry about the wallet taking a knock. But I do wonder just how many kits like this stay in the cupboard stash for years and never get made. 1 Quote

WRENNEIRE Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Yes Ernie I was persuaded to let one go which I regret to this day 1 Quote

Galteemore Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Kirley on RM Web has built one, using etches drawn up by Tony Ragg. So presumably etches may be available for other parties…..pic courtesy Kirley on RMWEB 1 hour ago, Horsetan said: I'd certainly consider putting my name down for a kit to build Lough Erne, one of the 1949 pair. 4 Quote
Colin R Posted November 6 Author Posted November 6 Are the above on this list or does someone know them that they could ask? Colin Rainsbury Quote

Colin R Posted November 6 Author Posted November 6 Hi Horsetan I have said that there may be up to half a dozen people who might be interested, I am thinking that he may not want to do them unless he can cover the cost of the etching process. it would be a lot cheaper to say have half a dozen done that just a one-off 1 Quote
James Regan Posted Saturday at 11:05 Posted Saturday at 11:05 I would be up for a couple. The SLNCR is a guilty pleasure of mine. 3 Quote

Colin R Posted Saturday at 11:45 Author Posted Saturday at 11:45 I have made contact with Kirley who is in contact with Tony Ragg, they are going to have a chat about this over the weekend so you all have time to think about whether obtaining the etches now is something you guys want. If it does go ahead I don't expect them to be repeated. Finding the casting and other bits may take a while, but I am sure there are enough folk in this group to tell us where such items can be purchased 3 Quote

As for boiler fittings, the chimney and dome are not especially outlandish and ‘close enough’ should be easily obtainable in the 4mm world. A 3d guru could probably knock up a chimney and dome fairly easily for you in any case. Edited Saturday at 12:02 by Galteemore 3 Quote
