Update from Roger:

I'm making progress on downscaling the 7mm artwork to the smaller scale ready for the etchers.  Bending allowances, hole sizes and support tag sizes have all to be altered for the smaller scale so you'll have to bear with me a little longer so that we get everything absolutely correct.  The etches will be in .012" brass and hopefully we shall be able to release the J18/19, the Brake/Third and the all-Third together.

Going to need a bigger layout...

Absolutely true! Especially since my current one is a freight-only branch…

I’ll try to get this one finished first.
If I extend the main sector plate beyond the pivot I can handle 3-coach trains of 30’ stock at Quartertown Mill, or a tin van and one Park Royal.

I have been giving some consideration to Valentia Harbour. Or is it Valencia Harbour? Not as bad as Cahersiveen which has 4 different spellings…

The GSWR, GSR & CIE used both spellings of Valen&ia at different times, sometimes more or less concurrently!

On my layout, when I get round to station nameboards, I was thinking of having “CASTLETOWN WEST” on one platform, and “CASTLETOWNWEST” on the other….. there are several precedents.

The GSR and CIE had Irish language experts crying into their smelling salts with their several versions of Bray…..

Andy Cundick did Valentia a few years ago and it still goes out occasionally. Helped operate it at a show once and, despite the very simple track plan, has plenty of interest.

Westport Quay attracted Iain Rice’s attention as a good prototype and he’s got a plan in one of his books.. cue a @jhb171achillpic of track plan

Another siding was added in GSR times, which ran from the top of the image shown, along to the right of the words "WESTPORT QUAY". In the 1960s, the pier siding shown at the bottom of this image above was shorteden to within the station limits (i.e. above the level crossing). When I first explored the site about 1969/70 it looked as if it had just been lifted, but the extra siding mentioned above, which would show on the right in this image, stayed to the end.

The last time I was there was in 2001. It was very difficult to work out where the pier siding had run, whilst the Goods Bank and station area had long since been flattened - I think a school has been built there since.

Whole area redeveloped now without any sign there was ever any railway near it!
