GSR 800 Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Update from Roger: I'm making progress on downscaling the 7mm artwork to the smaller scale ready for the etchers. Bending allowances, hole sizes and support tag sizes have all to be altered for the smaller scale so you'll have to bear with me a little longer so that we get everything absolutely correct. The etches will be in .012" brass and hopefully we shall be able to release the J18/19, the Brake/Third and the all-Third together. 5
Mol_PMB Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Wonderful. Two more carriages for my rake of 6-wheelers. 1

Especially since my current one is a freight-only branch… I’ll try to get this one finished first. If I extend the main sector plate beyond the pivot I can handle 3-coach trains of 30’ stock at Quartertown Mill, or a tin van and one Park Royal. I have been giving some consideration to Valentia Harbour. Or is it Valencia Harbour? Not as bad as Cahersiveen which has 4 different spellings… 2

Not as bad as Cahersiveen which has 4 different spellings… The GSWR, GSR & CIE used both spellings of Valen&ia at different times, sometimes more or less concurrently! On my layout, when I get round to station nameboards, I was thinking of having “CASTLETOWN WEST” on one platform, and “CASTLETOWNWEST” on the other….. there are several precedents. The GSR and CIE had Irish language experts crying into their smelling salts with their several versions of Bray….. 2 1
Colonel Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Andy Cundick did Valentia a few years ago and it still goes out occasionally. Helped operate it at a show once and, despite the very simple track plan, has plenty of interest. 2
Galteemore Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Westport Quay attracted Iain Rice’s attention as a good prototype and he’s got a plan in one of his books.. cue a @jhb171achillpic of track plan 2 1

In the 1960s, the pier siding shown at the bottom of this image above was shorteden to within the station limits (i.e. above the level crossing). When I first explored the site about 1969/70 it looked as if it had just been lifted, but the extra siding mentioned above, which would show on the right in this image, stayed to the end. 1

The last time I was there was in 2001. It was very difficult to work out where the pier siding had run, whilst the Goods Bank and station area had long since been flattened - I think a school has been built there since. 1

Whole area redeveloped now without any sign there was ever any railway near it!
GSR 800 Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 Bit of a PSA here, I believe Roger's email has been hacked, if you get an email from him asking for anything regarding gift cards or whatnot beware! 1 1

Mol_PMB Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Just wondering if there’s any update on the progress with these? My main interest is in the MGWR 6-wheel coaches. 1

From Roger: Sorry to have been out of touch for a while, but I've been working on the 4mm scale artwork for the J18 and MGWR coaches and I think these are now ready to go to the etchers. It isn't just a case of reducing everything by 4/7ths - all the hole sizes and bending allowances have to be adjusted and the support tags increased in width. But it's all just about done now so I'll let you know when we get the delivery from the etchers. 3

I've already acquired a stash of castings for buffers, axleboxes/springs and other oddments. 1
