Glenderg Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Incidentally, I spotted this on google maps, a mini crane on the back of a 42' flat. Then I got this image... Anybody got an idea what it is/was for? Lifting old semaphore signals? R Quote

Glenderg Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Taken Feb this year down in the North Wall Yard, behind all them MKIII's. Wrenn sent me the photo so see if I could make the crane lol. Probably still there, but you'd need to be IE, or be adventurous with a stepladder to see it. Quote

Shinkansen Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Always good to see some more unusual Permanent way oddities! Thanks for posting:) For the record, here's a few more I came across back in August 2012 down on North Wall. Anyone ever see the Hi-rail Tractor in action? Im guessing it's for hedge cutting duties? Couldnt get much closer, like ye said.... you'd have to be MI5, CIA, CIE (or a Ninja!) to get in there Tom Quote
heirflick Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 great shots Tom - fine array of machines.thanks for posting:tumbsup: Quote
gm171 kk Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Here are a few of the many videos I took of some rail replacing and road resurfacing that was taking place on a local level crossing. 741 on its way to the crossing: I have close up pics of the tamper and some of the machinery used but the photos keep failing to upload. heirflick Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 excelent GM - great footage:tumbsup: Quote
IrishModelRail Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 What about this fantastic video from Clonmel. The best of the lot in my opinion:) And a meagre contribution by myself;) Quote
RedRich Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 It breaks my heart seeing all that lovely bullhead track being ripped up in Clonmel. The new road bridge is a mess compared to the old one. However it is nice that they are starting to put in windows on the platform side of the two storey building. It is also nice to see the per way trains in action. Rich, Quote
irishrail123 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Here's a short video i got a few years ago of a tamper in work at clondalkin and fonthill station :-) Quote
heirflick Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 081 leaving the depot in Portlaois this morning with a ballast train of 6 wagons and 2 jennys... also spotted 072 with one autoballaster in the depot ......the shortest ballast train ever? Quote
Weshty Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Hi Richie, When was the Clonmel station bridge changed out? Safety? It was a bit hump-backed alright. The new one is a block-ish yoke by comparison, not much elegance to it. Great youtube clip though... Quote

heirflick Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 ttc - do you know why 072 had one behind her? Quote
ttc0169 Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 ttc - do you know why 072 had one behind her? Possibly the wagon has got some bogie work done at Inchicore-I see it has the new logos applied also. Quote
RedRich Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Hi Richie, When was the Clonmel station bridge changed out? Safety? It was a bit hump-backed alright. The new one is a block-ish yoke by comparison, not much elegance to it. Great youtube clip though... They started taking it out in 2012 Des, The signals were moved forward a few feet while the work was being done. The signal man told me that they needed a wider bridge to accommodate the traffic. I have fond memories of crossing the bridge when going to Fethard, I suppose it was more appealing to me instead of using the by pass. It's a wonderful station and a beautiful building. I can see the inspiration in Carrick and Clonmel for the SSM level crossing and signals. Rich, Quote
IrishModelRail Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 076 stopping traffic... Did you film this? Quote
