thewanderer Posted June 25, 2012 Author Share Posted June 25, 2012 Good evening all, Due to other commitments I wasn't able to travel on the RPSI Mystery Train to Galway last Saturday, instead I photographed it at Monastervin and Portarlington. But thanks to a contributor I now have a selection of photos of the tour in Connolly, Galway and departing Galway passing Renmore. The railtour pictures may be found at: http://smu.gs/MwAsC3 The 2nd update tonight features old and new at Galway with new ICR sets 22049 + 22054 alongside soon to be ousted 2719 + 2722 on Sunday 24th June. Plus on Monday 25th June 2012, Irish Whiskey Manufacturer; Irish Distillers chartered a MKIV set from Iarnrod Eireann for a 1750 Cork - Heuston Special. The set operated to Cork at 1325 from Heuston and was pictured at Rosskelton. The return special from Cork was pictured at Kilbride. 223 and 7MKIV 4008 did the honours. Csalem Posted June 26, 2012 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Hi all, This morning in Docklands Station in Dublin, Iarnrod Eireann and Dublin Fire Brigade conducted a joint exercise which simulated a train/car collision: 29017 and 29018 were used in the exercise, as well as number of units from the Dublin Fire Brigade. IWT is assembled down in the docks where there is no public access but it spends the night in North Wall Yard. It normally departs around 09:30, and sometimes they may do some shunting with it so that is probably best place to see it and containers. The unit has also lost its outer end ganways, leaving the 2600 class DMU as the only fleet that will retain the outer end gangways. On Saturday 30th June 2012 the unit was deployed on the Waterford - Limerick Jct services and it was pictured at Fiddown Bridge with the 1640 Waterford - Limerick Jct. http://smu.gs/N0qtag The Wanderer. Most Limerick - Dublin Heuston services will start / terminate at Limerick Junction but one service, the 1340 Heuston - Limerick is diverted by the Ballybrophy - Limerick line via Nenagh. This is required as the set is needed back in Limerick to form the following morning 0505 Limerick - Heuston via Nenagh service. Today the 1340 Heuston - Limerick was formed of 22052 and I photographed the train at several locations on the branch between Ballybrophy and Limerick. Also, the evening 1605 & 1705 Limerick - Ballybrophy services were both worked by 2700 Class DMU's. It is rumoured the last remaining sets of 2700's will be withdrawn by the end of this week. The only reason the 2700's are being withdrawn is due to the economic downturn and the delivery of the additional 22000 units. If the country hadn't gone down the pan things would be very different. Csalem Posted July 4, 2012 Share Posted July 4, 2012 Hi all, Bit of an Enterprise theme to today's update. First up, 082 brought two Mark 3 Generator Vans north from Dublin to Belfast today. They are due to enter service on the Enterprise by the end of the month. The movement is seen here at Howth Junction: I then popped down to North Wall to get orange/black 084 in some lovely sun arriving with the morning service from Tara Mines: As well as it heading down Alexandra Road tramway: It was then a quick dash across Dublin to get the highlight of the day. NIR's 8208 operated the 0820 IWT liner from Ballina to Dublin today. This is the only loco in the current Enterprise livery and has performed exceptionally rare duty on the IWT. It is seen here passing Platform 10 at Heuston as it enters the Phoenix Park tunnel, though weather conditions not as good as they had been for 084: Rest of today's pics can be found here: http://smu.gs/O4QAu8 Enjoy! After 208 worked the IWT ex Ballina on Wednesday, it was the turn of classmate 230 to work the 0930 North Wall - Ballina IWT on Thursday morning. Making off peak passengers change trains will do nothing to encourage traffic on the line. It would have been far better, IMHO, to have spent the money (and probably have a sizeable chunk left over) extending the platform at Clara so that 9-car ICRs could operate on the Heuston-Athlone corridor - for example 3 cars for Galway and 6 for Westport on the 07:30 ex-Heuston.
