thewanderer Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 Good evening all, Due to other commitments I wasn't able to travel on the RPSI Mystery Train to Galway last Saturday, instead I photographed it at Monastervin and Portarlington. But thanks to a contributor I now have a selection of photos of the tour in Connolly, Galway and departing Galway passing Renmore. The railtour pictures may be found at: http://smu.gs/MwAsC3 The 2nd update tonight features old and new at Galway with new ICR sets 22049 + 22054 alongside soon to be ousted 2719 + 2722 on Sunday 24th June. Plus on Monday 25th June 2012, Irish Whiskey Manufacturer; Irish Distillers chartered a MKIV set from Iarnrod Eireann for a 1750 Cork - Heuston Special. The set operated to Cork at 1325 from Heuston and was pictured at Rosskelton. The return special from Cork was pictured at Kilbride. 223 and 7MKIV 4008 did the honours. Csalem Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Hi all, This morning in Docklands Station in Dublin, Iarnrod Eireann and Dublin Fire Brigade conducted a joint exercise which simulated a train/car collision: 29017 and 29018 were used in the exercise, as well as number of units from the Dublin Fire Brigade. Some more shots of this unusual event can be found here: http://smu.gs/MSi34H If you prefer the usual, I also got a shot of 222 on the IWT liner and 084 on the Tara which start with this pic: Enjoy! Glenderg Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Great snaps as ever Csalem. Where do they assemble the IWT from, or more to the point wheres the best spot to get photos of it, especially the containers [rather than the pocket wagons]? Cheers. Quote
Csalem Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Hi all, As a follow-up to the shots from last Tuesday's exercise involving IE and Dublin Fire Brigade I have now uploaded a second collection from the day. These shots were taken and supplied by Iarnród Éireann to me and are from within the 'incident' area: It goes without saying that I am eternally grateful to the company for supplying these pictures of a rather unique event to me. Rest of the shots can be found here: http://smu.gs/NH2jPx Enjoy! Quote
Csalem Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Great snaps as ever Csalem. Where do they assemble the IWT from, or more to the point wheres the best spot to get photos of it, especially the containers [rather than the pocket wagons]? Cheers. Thanks. IWT is assembled down in the docks where there is no public access but it spends the night in North Wall Yard. It normally departs around 09:30, and sometimes they may do some shunting with it so that is probably best place to see it and containers. Failing that, the alternative is to go to Ballina where it can be easily seen unloading at the station: Quote

thewanderer Posted June 30, 2012 Author Posted June 30, 2012 Good evening all, 2800 class DMU 287 + 2818 has been repainted into the ICR Style Green and Grey livery following overhaul at Inchicore works. The unit has also lost its outer end ganways, leaving the 2600 class DMU as the only fleet that will retain the outer end gangways. On Saturday 30th June 2012 the unit was deployed on the Waterford - Limerick Jct services and it was pictured at Fiddown Bridge with the 1640 Waterford - Limerick Jct. http://smu.gs/N0qtag The Wanderer. thewanderer Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 Good morning all, On Monday 2nd July I paid a visit to the Waterford and Suir Valley Railway. http://smu.gs/N59uDE The Wanderer. Quote
thewanderer Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Evening all, For the month of July the railway between Limerick and Limerick Junction is closed due to engineering works. Most Limerick - Dublin Heuston services will start / terminate at Limerick Junction but one service, the 1340 Heuston - Limerick is diverted by the Ballybrophy - Limerick line via Nenagh. This is required as the set is needed back in Limerick to form the following morning 0505 Limerick - Heuston via Nenagh service. Today the 1340 Heuston - Limerick was formed of 22052 and I photographed the train at several locations on the branch between Ballybrophy and Limerick. Also, the evening 1605 & 1705 Limerick - Ballybrophy services were both worked by 2700 Class DMU's. It is rumoured the last remaining sets of 2700's will be withdrawn by the end of this week. The photos start at: http://smu.gs/O1Mtzh Enjoy, The Wanderer. Quote
BabyGM Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Evening all, It is rumoured the last remaining sets of 2700's will be withdrawn by the end of this week. That just shows the quality of railcars compared to locos The last 121's lasted over 55 years the 2700's only about 15 years Quote
thewanderer Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 That just shows the quality of railcars compared to locos The last 121's lasted over 55 years the 2700's only about 15 years It shows the quality of nothing. The only reason the 2700's are being withdrawn is due to the economic downturn and the delivery of the additional 22000 units. If the country hadn't gone down the pan things would be very different. Csalem Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Hi all, Bit of an Enterprise theme to today's update. First up, 082 brought two Mark 3 Generator Vans north from Dublin to Belfast today. They are due to enter service on the Enterprise by the end of the month. The movement is seen here at Howth Junction: I then popped down to North Wall to get orange/black 084 in some lovely sun arriving with the morning service from Tara Mines: As well as it heading down Alexandra Road tramway: It was then a quick dash across Dublin to get the highlight of the day. NIR's 8208 operated the 0820 IWT liner from Ballina to Dublin today. This is the only loco in the current Enterprise livery and has performed exceptionally rare duty on the IWT. It is seen here passing Platform 10 at Heuston as it enters the Phoenix Park tunnel, though weather conditions not as good as they had been for 084: Rest of today's pics can be found here: http://smu.gs/O4QAu8 Enjoy! Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 What would we do without you Csalem. Great shots there now I can take 8208 out of the box and run her with my container wagons Quote
Csalem Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Thanks. It sort of did the IWT before. Darren Hall got a shot of it coming up Alexandra Road, after it had hauled the set down: Quote
MOGUL Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Speaking of Alexandra road, a few shots of it from a different viewpoint that I've uploaded at http://www.flickr.com/photos/82040709@N08/ A few nice ones for Anto in there too.... Quote

thewanderer Posted July 6, 2012 Author Posted July 6, 2012 Good evening all, Some pictures taken on Thursday of North Wall and Heuston, featuring an Enterprise theme. After 208 worked the IWT ex Ballina on Wednesday, it was the turn of classmate 230 to work the 0930 North Wall - Ballina IWT on Thursday morning. Meanwhile in Heuston 209 was allocated to the 1100 Heuston - Cork. http://smu.gs/NcUdAN Plus a small LUAS Update from Connolly and Heuston: http://smu.gs/NcUinU The Wanderer. Quote
thewanderer Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Tuesday evening at Portarlington with 22051 + 22058 1725 Heuston - Limerick and E Car Ireland charging points which have been recently installed at the station car park. http://smu.gs/OvvTrI The Wanderer. Quote
Csalem Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Hi all, The first of two updates for today. First up are from the Dublin area and they include the following: Luas 5023 on the Green Line has been given an AOA for 'The Dark Knight Rises': 079 worked the IWT liner from Dublin to Ballina today: And finally, work on the new bay platform at Clonsilla is now nearly complete: More shots of the above can be found here: http://smu.gs/LLdBri Enjoy! thewanderer Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 Good morning all, A couple of pictures from Mallow and various locations in Kerry from Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. http://smu.gs/NoapgH The Wanderer. Quote
josefstadt Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 And finally, work on the new bay platform at Clonsilla is now nearly complete: Such a waste of money putting in the bay platform at Clonsilla. Making off peak passengers change trains will do nothing to encourage traffic on the line. It would have been far better, IMHO, to have spent the money (and probably have a sizeable chunk left over) extending the platform at Clara so that 9-car ICRs could operate on the Heuston-Athlone corridor - for example 3 cars for Galway and 6 for Westport on the 07:30 ex-Heuston. thewanderer Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 The last of the weekend pictures with 22020 at Killarney and Mallow along with 4005 on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday I popped down to Tara Street to see the RPSI's 461 passing through on the Special from Dublin Connolly to Wicklow before heading to Heuston for the final pictures of the weekend. http://smu.gs/NqQn5d The Wanderer. Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 (edited) She does look well with the blue coaches. Its great to see a nice bright train as I always hated that drab RPSI green livery on the Mk2's Edited July 21, 2012 by Anthony Quote
Csalem Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Hi all, Just one shot of note today and that is 22055 on the 09:05 Dublin Connolly to Sligo. Up to very recently only 22001-22046 could operate out of Connolly but that has now begun to change: Enjoy! Quote
Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Any idea why 22001-22046 could only operate out of Connolly Quote
Csalem Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Probably because IE wanted the new stock to return to Portlaoise while they bedded in and ironed out any issues while they were being commissioned. The units out of Connolly are now based in Drogheda and return to the midlands every week or two weeks. Quote
Gordon71 Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Added some pics of 112 hauling a very unusual camera train on NIR metals on Saturday the 21.7.12 to mysite , all photos had been taken in the Portadown area of the train. http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/23991072_CQtCC2#!i=1947289350&k=Vg3gZCF Quote
heirflick Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 gordon, love the pics! the camera train is unusual to say the least, and something i havent seen before--is the pickup taking pics of track ? Quote
Gordon71 Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 gordon, love the pics! the camera train is unusual to say the least, and something i havent seen before--is the pickup taking pics of track ? Yes i had asked was told it was taken photos & video of the track , also heard that this has been the first time somthing like this had been done with a pickup very strange seeing it on a rail wagon http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/23991...9350&k=Vg3gZCF Quote
thewanderer Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 Any idea why 22001-22046 could only operate out of Connolly It was a internal decision to keep the new sets close to "home" in case of problems with them. Quote
