Sulzer201 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Anyone spot this one? https://www.donedeal.ie/hobbies-for-sale/model-train/13315868 Quote
Noel Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Lovely lookin thing Yes it is (for its time). Price seems a bit expensive given Murphy Model's superior fine scale 121 models are due to hit retail shelves in the near future. Quote
Sulzer201 Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 Noel I though the same but when you consider the amount of time and effort that was needed and the fact that he had to buy the kit and the chassis, then the price is okay I think? I built my own one of these recently and it takes time to paint etc (great fun), and my effort is not a patch on this one. If I had the dosh I would be very tempted, any idea when Mr. Murphy's yanks will be available? Quote

I would have been very tempted myself but for the imminent arrival on retail shelves of the MM0121 (expected this side of Christmas). Noel Photo from donedeal.ie Quote
Georgeconna Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Should be DCC'd and Head lights as well. Mark is tumbling headlong into O gauge hence the sale! Quote
Warbonnet Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 That's one of the best MIR 121's I've seen. Lovely job and well worth the outlay. Quote
irishthump Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) That's one of the best MIR 121's I've seen. Lovely job and well worth the outlay. Have to agree, it's a cracking job. It will be a good runner too (even with the stock Athearn mechanism) as long as you use the right decoder. Edited September 16, 2016 by Warbonnet Quote
Warbonnet Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Many SW1500's used a nice Canon motor, rather than the stock 'bluebox' mech so they can be beautiful runners. It'll be nice and heavy too would pull well. Quote
Noel Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 It is a cracking job and worthy of collector interest as a top class example of what could be achieved with a MIR kit, but will it not become functionally obsolete in 10-12 weeks time when fine scale MM 121s hit the shelves? Agree the SW1500 chassis is a really good runner. Quote

Noel Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 No, it'll still work perfectly fine? Of course it will work, but did demand for MIR derived 141/181 models not dry up quickly when superior MM 141/181s hit the market? Quote
Warbonnet Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Of course it will work, but did demand for MIR derived 141/181 models not dry up quickly when superior MM 141/181s hit the market? true in one sense, but plenty of people still run their MIR 141s and 071s and enjoy them every day. That 121 is a handbuilt model and as of the time of writing there is no alternative if you want a 121 on your layout. Quote
Georgeconna Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) check post 41 here to see what this was like when the model was received, hopefully the pics work. heres a pic from the old forum. Edited September 16, 2016 by Georgeconna Quote

Agree the SW1500 chassis is a really good runner. Unfortunately it will be a lot longer than 10 to 12 weeks till we see them. It's well into next year at the moment. Quote
Georgeconna Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Just onto Mark there and it is still DCC fitted with directional headlights. Quote
Noel Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Unfortunately it will be a lot longer than 10 to 12 weeks till we see them. It's well into next year at the moment. Hi Dave. Thanks, did you get that info from PM or a retailer? Noel Quote

Railer Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Sure the Supertrain MK2 Version 2s have to hit the shelves before the 121s, along with the interm 201 livery and Cravens 1509. Long, long way to go for the 121s. Quote

Dave Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Sorry didn't realise he was a Murphy Model agent No worries Noel, I don't advertise it. I get them for clients if I'm asked usually part of a layout package. Quote
Noel Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Looks like she's sold. A nice buy for the new owner. Quote
