Sulzer201 Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Inspired idea for a simple circle line layout. Shows what can be achieved with imagination and skill. Quote
Irishrailwayman Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 The ultimate tail-chaser! Also referred to as a pizza box layout. Good opportunity to vary the backscene at each quartile. Some examples I have seen utilise curved points to give two linked running lines/sidings. Quote
David Holman Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 So, not only are you building a half sized Maeve [in time for Christmas], but the smokebox door is going to have a circular layout inside it! Clearly solves the problem of how to fit the Maeve model in the garden - presume it will be mounted vertically, so when the smokebox door is swung open, the layout is ready to operate? Still track and 'Magnadhesian' to stop the trains falling off when in store too? Quote

RobertRoche Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 I was considering making a rotating layout, I even bought the bearings for it. Is this driven by a motor or by the weight of the train on one side? Quote
GSR 800 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 By the locomotive Methinks you may have gotten inspiration to build this while constructing the MF... Quote
A4mallard Posted December 12, 2016 Author Posted December 12, 2016 All joking aside, if I could get some decent drawings of Maeve, I'd give it bash. Quote

David Holman Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Is that a gauntlet being thrown I see? At half scale, will be 'only' around 10 metres long, with 1 metre diameter drivers, sitting on 2'7.5" track... Local timber merchants may already be considering exotic foreign holidays! Quote

I remember hearing of a chap that made a big wooden thing like that once, but he used gopher wood. Never been sure what happened to it.. Quote

Aye, the challenge has been put forth....should it be accepted, now that is the real question... Quote
