I don't know if it's a coincidence but looking at 075 and 082 they are coupled with the no1 ends facing each other, 071 and 073 in multiple were configured the same. Just wondering is it change or is there a reason? I thought the cooling ends, no2 ends of the 071s had the noisier cabs than the no1 ends therefor given a choice the drivers would rather drive from the no1 end cabs? Quote
ttc0169 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 071 to do the Claremorris-Ballina-Westport-Claremorris leg of the tour, 075+082 will be stabled on the Ballinrobe siding nearest the station in Claremorris while 209 is allocated to work the North wall-Ballina IWT liner at it will be stabled on the lake siding which is directly behind the Ballinrobe siding. 1 Quote

snapper Posted April 19, 2019 Author Posted April 19, 2019 To make your choice even more difficult the details of the October tour have just been announced with something special Quote DIESEL RAILTOUR ANNOUNCEMENT!! Continuing with the successful operation of diesel railtours to raise funds for the restoration of B134 to the mainline, we are pleased to announce the next fundraising railtour. Scheduled for Saturday October 5th, 'The Cobh Rambler' railtour will be another first for diesel enthusiasts. Starting from Dublin Heuston station the train will first make its way down the mainline to Cork hauled by a mixed pair made up of an 071 and 201 locomotive operating in multiple. In Cork, the 071 will go light engine to Cobh with the train following on behind hauled by the 201. In Cobh the 071 will join the rear of the train for the run first of all back to Mallow (via the station avoiding line in Cork) and then down the Kerry road to Killarney. The loco will then run around for the return to Mallow. While all this is going on, the 201 will return light engine from Cobh to Cork and will exchange with another member of the class. This locomotive will then go forward to Mallow and wait for the train to return from Killarney. The 201 will then join the head of the train with the 071 for the return to Dublin Heuston once again operating in multiple. Tickets for this tour will certainly be popular and will be on sale soon via the usual online and postal booking options. Tickets for this tour will be €70/£63 plus online booking fees. The RPSI would like to acknowledge the great assistance from all departments of Iarnrod Eireann for making this railtour possible. 2 Quote

airfixfan Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 If 85 is going north on Sunday does that mean that only 85 is doing the whole 3 day tour in May? Quote

airfixfan Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 So 85 will do Waterford to Limerick for the first time on Sunday 12th? Quote

Unless IE throw their usual spanner in the works and a diesel turns up for that bit! I hope not. Little enough main line steam..... Pity Whitehead wasn't able to get 131 ready in time. Quote
leslie10646 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 IF No.85 is the only available loco, then I understand that she is too heavy for the Waterford - Limerick line. Quote
airfixfan Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 The problem is that 131 is ready and was in fine form over Easter but that it is not allowed south of Newry as it is not yet accepted by Irish Rail. Hear that as 85 is banned on the Waterford/Limerick line that it is an 071 on Sunday 12th now. Quote
Railer Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 As it is special permission has been granted to just open the line between Waterford and Limerick on a Sunday as it's usually closed. 1 Quote
airfixfan Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Article in the latest issue of Railway Magazine now confirms my earlier comments that 85 is not allowed by Irish Rail to do the Sunday leg from Waterford to Limerick and return. Also hearing that 85 has to pass a boiler inspection over the next few days before it can operate any part of the May rail tour. Quote
snapper Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 85 is too heavy to operate over the Limerick Junction to Waterford line and 131 requires approval from the CRR so the Sunday will be 071 operated. Quote
Railer Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Just for anyone interested in modeling the real thing: The Sligo tour on Friday week will be a short formation of GSV+1522 Diner+1514 Bar+1532+1505+1508. It will be 1508s first run this year and the last 3 Cravens are the same running numbers of the RPSI commissioned Cravens pack. 1 Quote
