The Galway, Newry & Waterford?

That's the one..... known for the fact that every single locomotive, wagon and coach they ever possessed, ran in the wrong livery, and on the wrong gauge track.

I think you'll find it was the right livery, just applied in all the wrong places 😉

Did the locos whistles play all the right notes just in the wrong order?

Hmm, there must be a gap in my knowledge of Irish railway history. The little known GN&WR...

RAILWAYANA GREAT SOUTHERN & WESTERN RAILWAY CAST IRON GATE NOTICE - Picture 1 of 5

The Great Northern and Western Railway--------Athlone-Westport and Ballina otherwise known as "Lord Lucan's line", or the Mayo Line

The line was leased by the MGW in 1859 until amalgamated with the larger company in 1889/90.

Whether genuine GNWR gate signs ever existed, I am not really bothered.

I have one in the garage somewhere. I may find it during my current domestic archaeology process.

RAF crash axe? - Edged Weapons - Militaria Collectors Network

So, I did find it during a recent spate of domestic archaeology.

It is marked "Tested 15,000 volts" - I don't intend to see if that's still true.

I remember now that this one is not ex-RAF, but came from a coal mine, or, at least, via a miner.

I'm not sure that removing the web in the middle, as seen in the RAF version further above, is really a good idea - you might save half an ounce, but you could end up getting snagged up on fuselage stringers, etc., as you hack through the skin, especially from outside.

I wonder if I should stamp it "HS2" and save it to sell in the future?
