Next on the weathering bench is the guinness wagons. Kept it simple by dulling down the paintwork on the cages, frame and bogies with a coat of frame dirt along the bottom to finish. Hope you enjoy. And since i have a new addition in a class 121 seemed fitting for it to take them for a spin VID_20201126_172317.mp4 VID_20201126_172317.mp4 VID_20201126_172317.mp4

Thank you. I have to admit i wasn't interested in getting but now I'm glad I did. Stunning model. Were they paired by number or was it a case of what was available?
-
Did the 121s run double headed together or was it just with the 141s 181s?
-
The orange seems very bright compared to the 201 or 071 one i have.
-
Nice little runner, as smooth as the 071 in the background

To respray or not to respray - Keep Silver/Black or Freight Grey?
Dempsey replied to Noel's topic in General Chat
Not a fan of the silver and black myself but that being said the model you've shown looks very good weathered. -
Just light dry brushing with small amounts and cooper and browns to give the effect of bleed through rust. Then watered down railmatch frame dirt with thinners and misted the model with a few coats. The over thinning allowed the paint to run and gives the streaking effect as if washed off with rain.

Next on the weathering bench were my resently acquired weed spray wagons. Thought i had gone somewhat over board although accidentally however i did manage too find some images that show the real ones in a similar state. As always your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

I have been guilty of doing that in the past but as the skills grow and grow I find the airbrush more useful for applying varnish or doing a full repaint. Appreciate all the feed back guys thanks. More to come on this feed.

Were the pocket wagons imported or built in Ireland?
-
Thanks everyone. Guinness liners next and I've 16 of them to do.

I really like them myself. The only thing I've noticed is if you attach the vacuum pipes the couplers seem to hit off them when turning . I dont know if its to do with the tension locks they come fitted with or is it dependent on the radius curve you use or if a different type coupler would be better

Thanks Rich, Google images is a great resource and of course the people who go out and share the pictures they've taken.

First in line of my weathering projects has been my 10 Tara mines wagons from Irish Model Railways which I've spent the last few days working on and I'm extremely happy with the results. First layer of dry brushing. Second layer. Airbrushing of the lid and along the upper portion of the wagon Airbrushing of the lower portion of the wagons with frame dirt to finish it all off. All that remains is to apply grease marks to the buffers and varnish. Very happy with how they all turned out with a good varied look throughout the 10 wagons. Look forward to hearing your thoughts as always.

IRM and Factory Weathering / Weathered Stock
Dempsey replied to DJ Dangerous's topic in Irish Models
While still a novice at weathering i prefer doing it myself as you can get varied results where you can have a full lenght train without a uniformed factory weathering. Just that bit of realism and personal touch -
Absolutely amazing layout and detail.

Thank you, it'll give me something to work off. Maybe do a few colour tests before hand

Although I didn't weather the inside of the wagons as they'll carry full length containers there will be a handful mixed in that will either be ran empty or with 20ft container or barrier that will have some weathering on the inside as they'll be seen. cheers Rich I used dry brushing and appalled layers. Copper colour first, Frame dirt next followed by roof dirt. I varyed between light to heavy depending on how used i wanted the wagons to look. Finally i brushed over each using the air brush with frame dirt.

Can not wait. It look really well up close.

With the sudden amount of free time i have, i decided to spend it weathering the number of Dapol pocket wagons. Although having tried my hand at light weathering on my rake of resprayed mk3s i painted I wanted to go for a more varied and worn look. The results are as seen in the pictures. Thoughts, comments and suggests as always welcome.
