Clogherhead - A GNR(I) Seaside Terminus
DJ Dangerous replied to Patrick Davey's topic in Irish Model Layouts
Just catching up on this thread, now. Outstanding work, @Patrick Davey! In particular the two post near the top of this page with the coping stones and the quoins, just wow. That said, the most impressive aspectof this thread is that it hasn't decended into farcical pun-itive jokes, yet. -
That's class, pure nostalgia. Is it a Fowler4F? Haven't seen one of those in a few months...

Just to clarify, the black and orange full brake no. 79 is NOT sold out. The TITLE says that it's sold out, but you can still buy it. https://www.hattons.co.uk/1056113/hattons_originals_h4_6fb_1703_6_wheel_full_brake_79_in_cie_black_tan_sold_out_on_pre_order/stockdetail Click "Pre-order" or "Pre-order to trunk" and it IS available.

I wonder if Lima and Hornby both used the same measuring technique and reference points, or different reference points for the same radius! The @WRENNEIRE song:

Go to the first post in the thread, the very first post, click the three dots in the top right corner of that post, click "Edit" and edit the title.

The track level and platform level shots are sublime, TTC! Just out of curiosity, after watching 161 and 132, is there (and was there back then) redundancy built into the rail network? Is there a spare loco on standby, or does launching a rescue mission require cancelling something else? If there is redundancy, where would the spare tend to be lurking?

I'm sure I read that they are trialling something along these lines in the US, but I can't remember the specifics.

Diesel Depot looks lovely wearing the BR blue trim. Flashbacks of getting the SeaLink over to Holyhead many moons ago!

Pity there wasn't a baby in a pram on the platform... Could have asked them to return for a cameo today. -
One other issue is increase in velocity vs. reduced autonomy. Autonomy for our van was calculated at 65kph in optimum conditions. I've tried driving faster to see what happens, and it drastically reduces the autonomy. Apply the same logic to a battery electric freight loco and it's very easy to guess that it may not be viable. OHLE would be amazing but may not happen quickly. Battery electric multiple-units are something that I can see working out. There is so much space to add batteries under floors etc. I don't have any figures so I'm guessing here, but surely a full load of passengers adds a lot less than a full container, meaning that battery Container Flats may fall victim to the weight issue. Again, to clarify, I'm massively in favour of EVE's as part of a transport strategy, where and when they are suitable.

So what is so terrible about Murphy Models and ESU decoders? It's been mentioned a few times that they have terrible driving characteristics, poor lighting options etc. I think that members use the word "vanilla" to describe them. From what I have seen, and from @murphaph's cracking video, they don't seem terrible to me. Only problem with that video is that I bite my nails every time a loco gets so close to the edge. No better man to fix them when they fall off, I guess.
-
I'm sure I could "crack" one open for you! You were looking for a bigger challenge, I believe?
-
Do I see a crew in there, @murphaph, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

The background is excellent for photos, really makes the stock stand out.

Will Táilte Tours be chartering flights, too?

Be sad to see SSM disappear. I've no positive feedback for them, yet, but have seen so many forum members heap so much praise on them, the decals and kits must be top notch. RIP.
