  1. Nope! I warned you all at the start of the thread, don't come crying to me now if you're faced with a lock of the bank account and a weekend sleeping on the sofa
  2. Quite like the seats on the ICRs, nice and comfy and line up with the windows. Engine noise isn't too bad considering it's a DMU. Streets ahead of a voyager for instance. The line to Wexford is a joke speed wise mind you.
  3. It's up to the person how he/she spends their money. If they didn't have it they wouldn't spend it. There are more expensive hobbies out there, classic car restoration for example. You can have fun with a set for 60 quid if that's all you can do. I do feel a tad uncomfortable about the topic as how people spend their money to acquire their collections is ultimately their business and may not want attention drawn to it. However, I'll leave it open for now if the discussion takes a sensible route. I certainly don't want to think about what I've spent over the years personally!
  4. Great edition as always. Really enjoyed the GNRI VS conversion from a Hornby Schools by Colm Flanagan. This GNRI steam is really starting to appeal..... Maybe when the soldering skills become more refined I'll be plumping for the SSM kit.
  5. Some nice Irish steam from this pic onwards
  6. Their Northern Belle and their VOSE are umber and cream a la traditional Pullman trains. Their Royal Scotsman is maroon.
  7. Some classic footage including a 121 running bonnet first at the start of this cine video of Raheny in the 60s
  8. A couple of shots of 233 on the 14:00 Dublin - Cork train today at d'local station on my flickr 233 Clondalkin/Fonthill by franburke, on Flickr
  9. Excellent first post Vlak and welcome to the forum! I'm sure we all love getting technical insights like that so feel free to keep them coming.
  10. A driver based in Heuston has mentioned the carriage shed there. The train won't use all 11 coaches, some will be kept as spares. Only one EGV is a bit of a schoolboy error though.
  11. There will be an observation car. I'm willing to bet that the picture used is from their Royal Scotsman stock.
  12. Congrats Noel! Best of luck with the new build. Wait till the new lady see's the bill for all those DCC chips though!
  13. Sounds like it'll be a great read, looking forward to it!
  14. Colour me jealous! Always had a soft spot for the LRC. Great stuff!
  15. I wouldn't call that useless, I'd call that perfectly normal!
  16. I believe the statement concerning the financial status of Silver Fox was made by a junior member which was quickly pointed out as out of order by a mod and then retracted by the poster.
  17. Gents a mod has asked for the bitchy element of the the discussion to end. To paraphrase Dave "You pay your money, you make your choices". We can leave the thread open for constructive feedback and a discussion about the Ds, but should the tone continue we will have to lock it. Thanks.
  18. Very nice Eoin!
  19. CIE proposed to build six twin engined sulzer locomotives in 1948. The engines themselves were built by vickers armstrong but instead were used in the B class after a period of storage http://www.derbysulzers.com/cie.html
  20. A member of the MRSI is working on this in O Gauge I believe.... The GNR 4-6-0 would've been sweet. such a pity about space constraints in Dundalk!
  21. The problem with the Bachmann model (and it's a pity because the rest of it is sweet) is the wiper pick up arrangement. It tends to get clogged with dirt resulting in poor running. They can be adjusted and modified to make a much better runner but the Hornby model is the better one to be sure. Buy a 2nd hand Hornby, have someone paint it for you and I'd wager it could be even cheaper than the Silver Fox...
  22. I'm assuming the difference between the engine note on the A's compared to EMD in house products is down to the different exhaust set ups? Did the A's use what was already in place when re-engined? Alternatively it could be the genny it was mated to. The English 57s for instance sound different to our 071s despite having the same engine down to Brush alternators and silencing. They seem to idle at a much higher RPM for instance. The chassis is a great job btw, simple but very effective.
  23. Not with the masters on tonight. Sure it'll be back.
