Noel, any chance of a clearer look at the class 37 in the first photo? Just peeping in at the right hand side. I wonder if it is the same Hornby model I got in the late 70s? Thanks.......

Progress report on the platforms. First coats of paint on and the das "walling" fixed to the sides. Even got a bit of ballasting done......

Hi Noel, I decided to read over the complete thread (yes all 70 pages) to see how it began, only to see that page one contains pics of an already existing layout. Although this was back in 2012 I am just wondering if you had images posted elsewhere of the beginnings of the layout?

Just realised Noel, I have never posted on this layout- too busy being awestruck I suppose. So just for the record I want to say: "Ah its alright" Seriously though, it is absolutely amazing (not that you need the likes of me to tell you that). I shudder to think of the hours you have dedicated to it. Absolutely worth the effort. Fantastic! The level of realism is just beyond it......

My brand new A class looked similar to this after it plummeted 3 feet to the floor 10 seconds after I put it on the layout for the first time. An expensive lesson on ensuring all wheels are correctly on the rails before engaging power. First points it came to, off she flew. Luckily the lads at IRM could help out with the repairs. Came back good as new. I think I may have mentioned this somewhere on here before.

No stopping you Kevin. Great stuff! When you say "the sticky label method for windows", do you literally cut shapes from labels and stick them on. If so how do you manage the "lead" Xs as glass? In other words, what do you stick the window frames/labels to?

I made a new template for the "stonework" at the front faces of the platforms. Made from two old loyalty cards. Took just over six hours work to complete- I thought ballasting was tedious (it is), but this thing nearly drove me back to the home for the bewildered. Will be worth the effort though, as I will be able to use it for stone walls etc. as well. This one has smaller stones than the one I made for the tunnels and bridges and measures 82mmx13mm. I have two 800mm strips of walling done.
