  1. Love the wagons. Very distinctive.
  2. I am liking that a lot. The unfinished one shows the construction work more clearly. Nice one Eoin:)
  3. I visited the Rathaus (City Hall) in Hanover back in '90. In it was a massive set of dioramas of the city, representing it as of 1500, 1935, 1945 and 1985. The devastation after the bombings has to be seen, there wasn't a building standing in the two square miles represented. Likewise I was living in Braunschweig at the time and a lot of the pre war buildings had quite evident fire damage still evident on the stone and brickwork, particularly at ground level. About 90% of the city was post 50's construction as a result. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7i2qdqkVOr8/T-jYck2fpSI/AAAAAAAACK8/LMohrEJD--c/s1600/hannover+after+2.jpg

  5. Yup, it's a gambling-like buzz. To be honest, ebay no longer provides the bargains that it used to 10 years ago. You're quite likely to be caught for VAT and excise on anything worth over €150 imported from outside Europe, negating any saving. A lot is on sale as buy it now, and prices are higher to accomodate the 20-25% transaction costs of ebay+ paypal. I stopped selling on ebay 7 years ago because of this. There are also other alternatives like Done-deal, Buy and sell and specialist auction houses, as well as the fact that most shops have some form of an online presence now, and have asjusted their pricing to compete with ebay. However it is still the place for the stuff that just can't easily be found elsewhere, particularly electronics and spares.
  6. Kind of like Brian Boru's axe or Trigger's yard brush eh? Head replaced five times and handle twice.
  7. Pure class John. There's great detail in that model. What will she be selling for?
  8. Yup, that's the one.
  9. Jawdropping. Very clean lines. I thought one of the shots was a CAD picture it was so clean! Mayner, you must be a proud daddy of your product after that.
  10. It's always a delight to see some of the older items brought back up, and especially with the fresh delight of our newbies. I'd forgotten about that monster 071. Can you imagine what it would be like if super detailed?? Vac pipes, internal cab detail, etc. Wowza!
  11. I remember walking it in '82 and the track was still on it, but I think it was pulled up shortly after that,
  12. Don't forget inflation though. 10 bob in 1969 would be worth c.€16 today. So yes, even in Dublin, you'd get change from 3 pints for that!
  13. Not old enough to remember that, used to think a florin was some sort of an orchid.....
  14. So at a very rough estimate... no. price subtotal loco 210 130 27300 carriage 718 50 35900 wagon 280 50 14000 Gross Total €77,200 ....... Wowza!
  15. Woah.....flashback. 1976, an Airfix Churchill tank (a LOT smaller than it looked on the box cover), in my Gran's kitchen and happily buzzing from building the kit and the fumes.

    P&T van IFM

Try Des Coakham's book, Irish Railway Carriages.
  17. Enjoy them, never was a coach more welcome as they are quite unique. Back in the day prior to their availability, I contemplated building a Worsely Works one, but the Model Rail article on building it scared the bejaysus out of me. Hence Paddy's release was very welcome, and very very good.
  18. Gentle Jesus, Is that MODEL track??? That's the most impressive I've seen in a long time. Where is this from. It's even got an array of point control bars on the right. I've never seen that on a layout before. We're not worthy.....
  19. Looks lovely, great colour combo. But why do does my mouth water for a HB icecream though?
  20. John, This could be a runner. I've some preliminary work done on this. Will email you on this
  21. Ahhhh, I never get tired of the look of the intercity, it's a very pleasing combination of steel and greenery. And nothing compares to standing at a level crossing 6 feet from it hammering past you at 90mph!
  22. A new product for your 42' Bogie flats. Three-tier beer cages. The kit contains six etched brass cages that can be folded and glued, and six resin beer stacks, based on the popular whitemetal beer kegs already available, as well as transfers for numbering the cages (9000 series numbers). Price is €36 per set. They are now in stock.
  23. Do a good job on the print out and it's almost MORE fun than the sound chip. I love my PM Mk2 EGV, but my scratchbuilt one just has that extra zen to it, knowing every bit of research and building trick to get it to where it was.
  24. JHB, I doff my hat sir. A super collation of info, particularly on the black / grey conundrum. This mornings posting will be printed and treasured.

    New Irish Lines

Well done to Garfield and Alan on this one. A great magazine and great that it is now in high resolution. I look forward to a good read of it this evening.
