  1. Do enjoy these little adverts pulled up from the not so recent past. Any idea what the relative percentage upcharge was, i.e. what did a 3rd class ticket cost circa 1925-1945? Other than refreshments, what other luxuries were on offer to the soon to be pampered 3rd class traveller in the Pullmans?
  2. Reference to a Junction Railway in Cumbria here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleator_and_Workington_Junction_Railway
  3. Thanks, Tom. Some previous photos of great service! One potential consideration might be the addition of sound I happened accross this on Rails website https://railsofsheffield.com/railroad-class-20-20163-locomotive-with-tts-sound-2016-range-r3394tts-hornby-railroad-JJJA29918.aspx R3394TTS (Twin Track Sound) does not seem to appear on the Hornby website, so I'm not sure if this has been comissioned by Rails? The prime mover in the Hunslet was the English Electric CSVT (I think it had 8 cylinders?.... open to correction) The prime mover in the BR Class 20 was the EE 8SVT (turbocharged V traction engine but without an intercooler). Since nobody is going to be getting a soundfile from 102 any time soon, I'm making the assumption that the soundfile from a Class 20 would sound pretty similar to the Hunslet. I would probably not be prepared to sacrifice very good running (& slow running) from a Bachmann class 20 for a motor that is obviously inferior to it. I don't know how good or bad the Hornby Class 20 motor is. From what I have read online, the rehashed/rebranded version of the Lima Class 20 is not quite hitting the mark as a modern motor. Does anyone know if this is something new from Hornby (wishful thinking most likely) or have experience with the present most 'modern' version Hornby Class 20 motor. Before you all laugh, we had some video of a Hornby Class 55 in action (as a potential metrovick donor chassis) a couple of days ago and it performed surprisingly better than would have been anticipated
  4. Thanks, David. Can the sanding equipment be pared away... once I figure out where it is?
  5. Online?
  6. Yes, I had looked there with the same feelings as you. There are some cheaper used but would prefer the reliability of a new unit, I think? How reliable is the class 20 if I were to go for used, I wonder? That's reassuring, David, doesn't sound like too much work to get them to mate together. Are the bogies on the Class 20 correct for the Hunslet? Will probably bide my time at these prices and get one with yellow detail on the bogies sides, should be easy to blacken it out
  7. Correct, that should have read " in lieu of some push-pull..."
  8. I think they come up from time to time on the dreaded eBay, occasionally completed, sometimes is a kit iirc I think they were used down south for the time on loan/hire to IR for some push/pull services in the 80s....
  9. Nice starboard light cluster!
  10. Thanks lads! So, most importantly, my coaches are OK…...and, oh yeah, my resprayer survived to do another fine job when I need some MkIIIs
  11. Any advice on where to source a modern chassis to run the Hunslet? It would be intended for a DCC layout if it ever gets built… Bachmann class 20 DCC ready or other?
  12. Same as at KX
  13. Could you elaborate a little on the impact The Emergency had on Irish railways?
  14. Yep. I picked up two sets over here, separately, for less than $150 each, one far less.
  15. Go for it!
  16. Many thanks for that, Kieran. PM sent.
  17. Is the problem with cellulose with humans, or with the model? I have some coaches that were resprayed with what I believe is cellulose paint and it seems to be fine. They are only a few months old but the plastic hasn't disintegrated yet or anything like that
  18. It is usual practice to describe such things with reference to the driver/object itself, therefore, the ship analogy is probably best with red to port. I presume it is exactly the same arrangement on the other cab.
  19. Hi All, Would anyone happen to have instructions for a Model Irish Railways Hunslet DL class kit? If I could obtain a copy that would be very much appreciated. Please PM me if you can oblige. Many thanks! Kevin
  20. Been watching this thread also. Video is working fine. Like Noel, I was similarly impressed when I saw it earlier and relatively easy to come by that chassis, I think.
  21. Very interesting John & josef. Would never have believed that this much wheel damage could occur. It is surprising that he operator has not passed on the repair and loss of business costs to Railtrack. Would have thought that would be sufficient motivation to just clear the track mor frequently.
  22. If I recall correctly, the 071s and 201s need a six function decoder to run everything with two additional functions to rund each interior set of cab lights
  23. Have never seen your layout in the flesh except limited views on 2013 SDMRC thread. Looks very impressive. Good luck with it!
  24. Great find, Noel!
  25. Can someone tell me if Hidden aganda is a real member? Can't PM him, find on the member list or find other threads.
