  1. Agree with Richie, this has strayed from the topic somewhat. EDIT: ALTHOUGH I have to say that all the posts regarding the discussion of MK2d quality and Murphy models should have been moved here from the Lima Models thread if they are not pertinent to that thread…...
  2. Please be safe if traveling to visit family or friends. Thanks to everyone who contributes to these fora every year, I have learned a lot. Long may it continue. Happy Easter to all! Kevin:bishopbrennan:
  3. One should really be able to express sensible and reasonable opinions on this site without these frenzied retorts, but it seems to happen any time anyone has an opinion regarding a Murphy Models product which is not delivered with genuflection. We all love these products, I have a bunch of them and still collecting. Overall, they are excellent but there is no denying that here are problems with some of the most recent set of 'rtr' coaches as outlined by many on this site and abroad. Sorry, but it is what it is. It is really up to MM to run that business how it sees fit but last time I looked it was not registered as a not for profit. That being the case, the models produced and put on sale by MM have deficiencies and I have to agree with WT that a business decision was made to release the product for sale with knowledge of the shortcomings. Alternatively, if it was not known at release that is a problem in itself for MM. In any case, if MM wished to retain its good and hard earned reputation over the years, other options were available such as a recall of available product, a no hassle refund for unhappy customers to allow deficient units to be returned and acceptable units to remain with modelers. None of these has occurred. No statement has been released by the company to even acknowledge that there is a problem. Failure to address the problem by MM has facilitated this uncertain and emotive discussion regarding the latest product. If MM's reputation suffers as a result that has to be attributed to inaction and its handling of the situation. One can only speculate on the reasons that this has endured without any direct statement from MM. Frequently they reasons are fiscal in nature, designed to protect the company while modelers are expected to purchase poor product to subsidize this. Honestly, I hope that MM does something to address this situation for its own sake. I understand all that has been said regarding dealing with a Chinese producer, again a modern business decision. I have only heard third party opinion regarding the MM's thoughts regarding the situation. It has ample opportunity to express these on its own website, or on here if it prefers. Many other models shops etc. are members on here and have the opportunity to address issues raised by members regarding their business. While anyone on here is entitled to an opinion I believe that MM should speak for itself. I hope that MM will address this soon and hope that it continues to produce good quality products that is synonymous with its name.
  4. Fran, that looks really nice. Is it prototypically correct or any compromises? I need or will need at least a couple of these one in each livery. Could you provide some contact details or PM me? I presume it is an overlay and requires a donor? Thanks, Kevin
  5. Hi Noel, 007's right. I did think of renumbering but I'm just trying to complete the set really. I model a little earlier like you. I'm sure you're right. I had several chances to purchase one in the last 6 months but chose another 141 instead. I didn't realize it was one of the first and a little hard to find. Now that I think about the original MM 141/181 class review, I think they looked at 184 and 187 as the first models released. THanks for the reassurance.
  6. Incidentally, I forgot to mention the locomotive is in Ireland, not in the US, if anyone is interested in swapping. Thanks
  7. Danny, could you enlighten the rest of us what defines a hump yard? I presume there is some topographical change in the terrain over the yard or at the entrance. Where were they used? any examples in Ireland? I presume they did not have a specific purpose other than to exist in an area with this type of topography? How did the yard safeguard against runaways? Thanks, Kevin
  8. Thanks for that, Pat. That question had been on my mind. I knew they cleaned the ballast but wasn't sure exactly why. I was pretty sure it was not just cosmetic in nature
  9. It's embedded in the PCB on the DCC chips in these newer models. The Wifi has all circuit pickups, all band broadcast and double flywheels:rolleyes:
  10. Hi IT, If you were to have trains running in opposite directions on the main circuits, the clockwise circuit would not be able to directly access the station terminus and vice versa for the anti-c to the station. I realize the plan may be to go from one to the other via the main circuits and then run the loco round if not top'n'tailed
  11. Schoolboy, error there, John. Only six digits in the price, they'll never go for it The Tara tartan might suit Although I think I might be able to sell this scheme more easily
  12. Now, I've seen everything. I don't believe it:-bd
  13. Which ones are in traffic in slate grey now, 071, 077 , 087 & 080?
  14. They are NOT listening, of course. Now if you were to come up with a hair-brained livery and charge a LOT of money (more is better), then you'd be in with a chance:rolleyes:
  15. That set is probably correctly numbered, Paul, because it has two standard coaches the 71XXs and a restaurant which should correctly have a 74XX number. The coach in Wrenn's photos is a STANDARD coach , not a restaurant, but incorrectly has been numbered 7411 (which should be reserved for a restaurant coach). It seems that some of the standard may have been misnumbered, probably not too many as few people are aware of it. WT, things have certainly slipped lately, but you also raise a good point as these should probably be numbered 72XX as neither is designated as a first class or composite on the doors
  16. Most would prefer not to:facepalm:
  17. No money left for the "restoration project" I would think
  18. Would anyone be interested in swapping MM0187 (which I need) for a mint boxed test run only MM0171. 187 should also be in near mint condition, boxed, in perfect running order if used, preferably with detail pack (or detail parts already applied to locomotive also acceptable) Thanks
  19. Explained in this hour long video on the Mumbai to Mangalore railway Detonators at 33:10 https://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=Y63_St_gBx0&lc=nDfHBX4oCfy4G1H1IUYZamzFqYQV8cgjwhWuawefcfk
  20. Detonators are placed on railway lines by drivers and other railway staff and are detonated by the pressure of a train passing over them, emitting a loud bang which serves to alert drivers to specific issues. Anyone familiar with when/how these would be utilized more specifically than in the article?
  21. That thing has no chance of touching the jets. It might hit the Hercules based on its lower speed and larger profile, but against an AC-130, :shooting:………………….I'd prefer not to be on that AA battery:praying:
  22. Good insight there, John. Let's see if there are free replacements for unhappy customers or whether we have to buy a 121 to get some money back….although if the USD reach parity with the Euro, most modelers will be paying more anyway:((
  23. Super video. Didn't get a chance to watch it earlier at work. Really enjoyed that ride in the Typhoon Are these USAF(E) F-15Es? From Lakenheath AFB, maybe?
  24. Yes, that has been highlighted before and will certainly impact the prices of what comes onto the market in the future. At some point an equilibrium will be reached whereby they increased costs will reduce demand for the product by the consumer and that process is likely to be accelerated if the quality drops as it certainly has with the paintwork on the coaches which may be the labor intensive portion of the product production. Actually, that is a plausible explanation if they are still in China and partially paid for. I'm not sure why the application of the liveries was good on previous coaches and now is problematic on the Supertrain Mk2ds. Does suggest that they're not made by the same company there although the same completion COD system could apply. So, several members are familiar with the process of obtaining MM stock but haven't contributed to the thread……… GIVE!….. (please and TY!)
  25. That's not a problem here, about a month should do it at most!
