  1. Thought Chris Dyer had plenty of these for sale new for £45, or buy new Super Train ones and add the tippex oneself for €56
  2. Hi Mike. I don't think so. But you have brought back memories of my first ever CIE black and tan coach hand painted from what I think was an old Triang Hornby 'Caledonian' coach. It used to be LMS maroon with yellow/bronze lining around the windows. My first ever hand repaint many moons ago when I was about 14 or 15. This was my first Irish livery coach before the Lima Mk1 CIEs came on the market in the 1970s. You have jogged my memory of trying multiple mixes of humbrol paints to get some sort of 1960s CIE tan colour. Cheers Noel PS: As you can see these were basically mk1s which different sides added as were most Triang Hornby models back then.
  3. Eh? But there is no optical illusion. Why is this news? Some BBC viewers must have extremely poor 'spatial relations' aptitude.
  4. Wow Imagination let loose As Dr Eleanor Arroway (Jodie Foster) said in the sci-fi move Contact - "They are Alive"
  5. +1 Superb
  6. Totally understand they would not look like the 'real' world if clean, but just personally speaking, I'd prefer clean white bubbles with blue logos having the option of weathering them oneself rather than factory enforced weathering. The photo of the cream white bogie bubbles in the publicity PDF looked great and could look visually attractive on a layout.
  7. That white livery and two tone blue logo combination looks great on the large bubbles.
  8. Looks like they fell out of a continental 'franc' shops lucky bag

Very fine job and a nice livery
  11. The design look of the APT-E reminds me of 1960s TV series such as "Joe 90", "Sting Ray" and "Thunderbirds". What size was the model production run?
  12. Possion d'Avril ceased at 11:00am UT but what the heck: 22k's to be reallocated for motorway use from 2017, seats to be improved with softer concrete padding and Fisher Price logos to be replaced by Bus Eireann logos. 800 to be moved to a new museum in ROI and shrunk to 7mm scale Food to be served once again on main line rail services for first time since 1990s Luas track bed to be made available for go-kart racing at weekends when the services are on permanent weekend strike 201 class to be re-engined with more powerful 6000hp motors to cope with Ireland's anticipated obesity crisis in the future. Seating on Mk5 sets will be one seat on each side of the isle, and track ballast to be made 10 inches deeper. 2600 class banned by EU H&S watchdog for fear of future 'army deafness' style litigation. Orthopaedic hospital beds in ROI to be reduced by 25% within 5 years of withdrawal. NIR to re-gauge all track to 4ft 8.5in gauge within 6 months of England, Wales and NI leaving the EU. Independent Scotland to re-gauge to 5ft 3in broad gauge in an effort to stop English trains crossing the EU border into Scotland. Irish Sea rail tunnel to be abandoned Dublin Airport to get electric bike cycleway link to city centre with charging points in each constituency on route. Murphy Models announce model of 2016 class high speed rail train used on Dublin to Mallow route.
  13. IOM discovered while outside the EEC they were still subject to the European Court of Human Rights and were also in receipt of some EEC grant aid so the 'birch' went.
  14. I spent a lot of time on IOM in the 80s and 90s. Fond memories of a most peculiar and interesting place that seemed lost in time. No speed limit on the mountain road and terms like road rage did not even exist in their vocabulary, quite the opposite. Fond memories of catching a train ride regularly at Ballajora. Tourism their former economic golden egg was in rapid decline by the mid 90s. Cute little airport back then too with 'La Rosette' a cutsie and fine eatery just up the road in Ballasalla. They still had the 'birch' back then as they were technically outside the EEC, so had almost zero crime levels and door locks were rarely used. The mountain railway had spectacular views but I did often wonder about the gradient.
  15. Enjoy. It's often the 'looking forward bit' that is the best part about collecting rare items. Some video clips or pics would be nice to see in due course.
  16. Can't see how it would have worked as our network is too small for competition to work. The only way to have 'competition' might have been state ownership of the network, selling capacity to multiple competing operators on the same routes, but I can't see how the economics of scale could have worked for fragmenting operators with such a small population and only three proper sized cities on the island. Anyway the motorways have won. In the very very long term it seems inevitable that the entire network will eventually be forced to go electric.
  17. Yes it works a treat and you have FIVE days to collect parcel instead of 48hrs from PM before extra charges incur. Bye bye parcel motel?
  18. Fine work
  19. Three nice grounded coaches in use at 5-star at Glenlo Abbey hotel in Galway http://www.glenloabbeyhotel.ie/en/pullman-restaurant-galway/ Recently enjoyed by another forumite!

  21. At least nice comfy seats (for those who had seats) unlike the fibreglass in 22k
  22. Thanks Fran. Any idea if and when you might be able to post some photos of pre-production samples?
  23. Well its better than Euro English The European Commission has announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU, rather than German, which was the other contender. Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had room for improvement and has therefore accepted a five-year phasing in of "Euro-English". In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make sivil servants jump for joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of the "k", Which should klear up some konfusion and allow one key less on keyboards. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f", making words like "fotograf" 20% shorter. In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent "e" is disgrasful. By the fourth yer, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and everivun vil find it ezi to understand ech ozer. ZE DREM VIL FINALI COM TRU!
